Romans true type font

Hi

We used to make text bold and use superscripts and subscripts with romans font.  Now it is greyed out and apparently it has something to do with true type font?  How do we overcome this, as our preferred font, and the one which has been standard to our company for 20 years, is romans?

ROMANS is a SHX font on my system, not a true-type font. Do you have a ROMANS.TTF?

If you also have a SHX, why asking about "has something to do with true-type font? I don't understand the question then.

Please, as next step:

• If it was different previously, what changed? Are you now on a newer AutoCAD version? Or any other changes?
• Which version of AutoCAD are you working with? (Please show a screenshot from command/dialog _ABOUT)
• Does the same happen in a new dwg-file

 Romans font hasn't bold preview !! are you talking about another font ? would you show us an image about your issue please ? 🙂

Then I'm out, because I don't have a ROMANS.TTF

But maybe more important: Look to your own screenshot, it does not point to a ROMANS.TTF, it points to ROMANS.SHX:

Also your drawing ... going into dialog of command _STYLE shows that you assigned a SHX font!

...shows that you have not installed any update yet. It should be "AutoCAD 2019.1.2"

Start with updating your software!

If you really have a ROMANS.TTF (best to be tried by starting MS-Word and try to select this font) you might go this workflow

• Find all files named "ROMANS.SHX"
• Rename them to "ROMANS_ORIG.SHX"
• Then start your drawing again and see if that works, but be prepared that you might need to rename all files back to the original name.

Hi,

I have to correct myself ... in Windows I do have a ROMANS.TTF, however AutoCAD does not show me this font.

Looks like if AutoCAD finds a SHX it does not use the TTF, renaming might help .. can't await your feedback 😉

No, the ttf romans is mapped like monotxt, isocp and so on.

(I prefer to NOT CHANGE this standard setup if you exchange your cad files with other people)

If you like to use these truetype fonts (which is standard mapped to a shx font in Acad), then

you have to use your own mtextmap.ini file (located in your program files folder).

Please save the original end edit a copy.

Thanks.  I can't seem to edit the file though, see below screen capture it says I don't have permission.  As you can see, I assume that I have to edit the line circled to .ttf file?

if you are admin then give you the permission to edit the file, otherwise ask the admin to give you the permission(s).

That does not mean that your editor was started with admin permissions.

• You can either start your editor with right-click ==> "start as administrator"
• Or you can right-click the file ==> properties and there set the permissions to full and then edit the file

I managed to change the .ini file as shown below, but still cannot get bold in multiline text?

1. Bold id prossible if you are using the TrueTypeFont and you are not using the ttf current.

2. You have to REMOVE the whole line from the file! (and restart AutoCAD)

3. As i wrote: I am thinking thats not a good idea because

   3a) You know nothing about these thing - Therefore, I think that you might have used a very different thing in the past!

   3b) As i wrote: It can be a problem when you exchange files (we son't know what you do with your files)

Thanks.  I have got a copy of the original and deleted the line, but I still cannot get bold (see below capture), although the romans has changed to romanS <=big 's'?

I am pretty sure you are mix shx and ttf now (really bad and this is one of the points why i prefer to NOT go this way).

Please start a new file, create a new style (with RomanS ttf), start a new MText and try it again.

Thats just for testing, just to see that it can work on your system with the current ini - it should working.

You are right, thank you, it works when I start a new drawing and make a new style with romanS.  But, I need it to work in the drawing I am working on?

Ask in your Company who customized the acad program or if possierlich, search a old Setup pc ehrte we can check what way you gone in the past .

perhaps you are wring with Romans and you mein other fonts

OMG - This happen if you are using a iphone (fail 1) with standard setup (fail 2) and german language layout + spell checker (fail 3) 

It is extremly hard to write an english text

Perhaps you are wrong with Romans and you mean other fonts (because inseide youre sample dwg there are non-standard fonts set for styles)
