ricoh driver problem

Anyone know if a Ricoh MP 4055 will work with autocad? Installed the driver for the ricoh printer and whenever Autocad is started will not load until the print spooler is turned off or the print driver uninstalled.

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

 I am not aware of any specific issues with the Ricoh driver.  What operating system are you installing into?

Current drivers are available here and you might also check the printer firmware too.

With this driver on your system, does AutoCAD not launch at all? Can you print to this device from other applications?

I'm a certified ricoh technician....the correct ricoh driver is installed and I checked the firmware update history and nothing relates to autocad....the printer works fine printing to other programs but autocad will not load with the print driver installed or the spooler running....it is not being used as a plotter printer but just to print regular pdfs and other documents from autocad....there is another wide format plotter installed as well

How is the driver configured to print to the hardware? Is it going straight to the printer's IP address or is it going to a print server?  Is it getting spooled locally first? If so, you might turn that option off to see if that makes any change.

What was the install order? AutoCAD first and then the driver?

Please provide a NFO file for me and also tell me the specific version of AutoCAD in use by typing ABOUT at the command line.

Is the driver/network printer getting pushed from a Windows server using Print Management? If so, try disabling that temporarily and install/configure at the local workstation only.

Hello!

There is no server in this environment. They have 6 or 7 computers and the print driver is installed on each computer. The driver is installed to an ip address. Autocad was already installed before this printer was installed. They had a xerox printer before this that worked fine they say. They are using REVIT 2018, Architectural Deskptop 2018 and AutoCAD MEP 2018.

Where would this nfo be located that you are referring to?

I am waiting for some responses from specialists and I thank you for your patience.  I looked at the NFO files and didn't see anything unusual.  I am a little amazed that this is occurring because I don't think there are any calls to any print drivers during startup.  Can you make a Screencast of how this is working/not working? How far into startup does AutoCAD get?

Does AutoCAD start differently if you unplug the computer from the printer?

The team is actively looking this issue and so far have not been able to duplicate the behavior in Windows 10 and they are proceeding to test in Windows 7.

Is there any kind of printer management application that is trying to capture print job information?  Such applications have been known to cause some issues before.

I'll see if they have time soon to try this. They did tell me on a computer with no autocad installed the computer prints fine to the printer. THis post below explains perfectly what they are doing to fix the issue but the print driver is not bad

When you open AutoCAD it hangs on loading during the license checking. It is observed that killing the spoolsv.exe process from the Task Manager allows for AutoCAD to open.

Development did test the PCL6 driver in both Windows7 & 10 and had no problem launching AutoCAD.

When it starts up does it show how far it is getting in the launch process? Does it look like it is doing a license check? I assume that since there is no server in the environment that it is looking to authenticate licenses with the Autodesk servers.  Is there a firewall device that might be preventing access?

Autocad loads fine when the print driver is uninstalled, so I don't believe there is a license issue going on. There is no server, so the print driver is installed on each computer separately and I can't see the firewall being an issue as each user is an admin and no firewall message comes up.


They used to have a xerox printer that worked fine. Does Autocad have a memory or store info in a setup file somewhere that it may be trying to load or this new printer conflicting with? They had removed the previous printer from the printers on the computers, so there should be no reference to them.


Does the printer have to have adobe postscript installed on it in order for autocad to load it properly? I'm still waiting on the previous tests you asked for to be completed as they are currently finishing up a project and is hard to run all these troubleshooting steps you ask for.

Are the CAD users printing to a PC3 file from within AutoCAD or directly to the Windows System Printer.  If the Xerox driver is no longer necessary please verify that it is totally removed the workstation and then reinstall the Ricoh driver.

The xerox driver is completely gone and they are not printing to anything as they cannot get Autocad to open. Is there anything special that has to be done during installation for a printer that is not a plotter? I'm thinking it's just install on windows and then when autocad is open to pick that printer and print. I know the plotter has to be installed in the plotter manager.

I connected with your customer this morning and she indicated that she couldn't duplicate the problem on a couple of machines!  She also indicated that some of the non-CAD machines were having problems with it installed too.

I suggested that she temporarily disable their anti-virus software and also to try a PCL5 version of the driver.  She will also configure the driver to print directly to the printer (no spooling) and will also check the security settings to add Manage the printer for the Everyone group.

Thanks for all your help.

She says she is still having issues but hasn't tried all our steps yet. I also recommended sharing the printer from her computer that does not have Autocad and letting the autocad stations pick that printer to print from rather than installing themselves. I'll let you know when we find a permanent solution. 

You said you might contact her next week to follow up. Maybe do that and see if anything has been resolved as well.
