Removing nested Xrefs

Hi,

I have some weird problem with my Xrefs, hope somebody can help me out, I'll try to explain as good as I can

So let's say I have the following files

#1: Master file

#2: Xref file 1

#3: Nested Xref into file #2

First of all, file #3 is a .png image I want to get rid off. I know that in order to remove nested xrefs (File #3) I have to "detach" them directly on file #2.

So I have already done that and saved file #2 AND reloaded it on my master file (#1).

The problem is that every time I work on File #1 and double click on my Xref (#2) to make small modifications, after I save changes on #2 the nested xrefs (#3) show up again as "orphaned" on my Xref pallete. I already tried closing my master file, opening file #2 again to detach #3 manually and saving, opening #1 and reloading #2 and they DO disappear off my Xrefs pallete, but it's only every time I edit #2 working from #1 that they show up again (over and OVER again). Is there any way that I can check and make sure they are COMPLETELY removed and will never come back to haunt me? 
This is really doing my head in! hope somebody can help

yes that's true also you will get the same result if you make them overlay attachment.

do that by detach then attache it again.

please make sure that after you clean right your other files get back to file#1 and detach all xrefs then attache it again as a new procedure.

The question seems to be the file#2 ... why does it have the PNG when you already detached it previously.

That is what you need to verify.

When file#2 shows all correct then you need to activate file#1 and maybe one time reload file#2

please make sure that after you clean right your other files get back to file#1 and detach all xrefs then attache it again as a new procedure.

Hi, so this is what I tried:

Detached all xrefs off file #2, attached them again and detached again

Opened File #1, detached file #2 and attached it all over again, it all looks CLEAN now.

Re-opened file #2 from file #1 (as working on xref mode) and BOOM, there they appear again as "unreferenced" (because they are not being used!)

EXACTLY! they keep coming back to file #2 even though I already detached them. Is there any other way to verify that they are truly gone? like some sort of "purge" but for xrefs?

Hi,

please run command _RECOVERALL and see if errors are reported (and repaired).

BTW: what happens if you rename the JPG file on your system so AutoCAD can't find the file?
