Reclaiming lost screen space

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all, I have recently upgraded form Autocad 2012 to Autocad 2017. While I expected some changes in appearances one that I am working on resolving is the amount of workable area I have.   With the newer addition of the program taking up more screen space, leaving me less to work in (As in the top and bottom of the screen bars of tools and information are taking up more space) If anyone could help point me to how to fix this problem that would be greatly appreciated Autocad 2012.JPGAutocad 2017.JPG

Hi taylorchamberlin

There are a few things you can do to regain some desktop real estate.

One thing that is fairly large is the FileTabs. Turning them on and off is easy via FILETAB and FILETABCLOSE

Another option is to minimize the Ribbon Panels using the downarrow at the rt hand of the ribbon

You can also reduce the number of lines for the command line (or float it if you like - not docked)

I hope this gets you started into customizing your settings.

Another couple of things you could try...

1. you could try auto hiding the windows bar at the bottom..gaining some space

2. and maybe play with the screen resolution? smaller text and ribbons/pull downs gives more drawing area.

Just a thought.

Hope this helps somewhat.

You have filetabs on buddy: not a feature of your older version.

Also your commandline and titlebar text sizes look huge in both screenshots: and why aren't you hiding the Windows bar?

Thanks to you and others for the help regarding the filetabs. That got me back to what I'm looking for on the top of the screen. I also found a way to turn off the model / layout tabs in the options menu. However this did me no good as the coordinates still are still on the right hand side of the screen. Leaving the rest of that bar blank and no net gain of workspace.  Is there a way to relocate the position of the coordinates information bar?

IT looks like you have every thing toggled on in your customization. Turn some of that off and the coordinates may fit on the same line. My coordinates are sitting right next to "MODEL" button

You can change what is displayed by clicking on the stack icon
