Read only file file lock

User 1 (civil 3d 2018) has the file opened "READ ONLY". User 2 (AutoCAD Arch 2018) tries to open the same file for editing. But User 2 Cannot open the file because it says USER 1 has it open.  But when you look at the file USER 1 is using it is READ ONLY. The file acts like it is read-only as well.  Now The twist to this is the infrequency of how it happens and to which user it happens to.   I am not sure if it is a bug in Civil3d 2018 or AutoCAD Architecture 2018. If user 1 and user 2 are both using the same program AutoCAD Arch 2018 or if the program is AutoCAD MEP 2018  there are no issues.

Hi @Salem24,

What is XLOADCTL set to in each of the applications?  I am curious if one is set differently than the others.  Other than this variable for external references, the file system is what controls file locking.

Are you using any specific project settings that might utilize a network share using a different name?

John,

In the scenario, User 1 XLOADCTL  was not set. After setting it to (2) everything started working as it should.
