Question about loft tool.

I'm trying to loft two rectangular objects together, and when i highlight both the command window comes up with "cross sections only" "Path" "Guides" and "Settings". I try selecting "cross sections only" and press enter and almost all of what i have selected is deleted. How should i properly loft these two objects together

The larger object is a region, maybe draw a closed pline instead, erase the region, and try again?
