Publish doesn't publish

Usually I use a PDF printer driver when creating PDF files.

I don't use publish often.

I now found that the Publish doesn't work (for any drawing file) - no PDF can be created at all.

The publish error report shows that "ERROR: Device not found".

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Try to prepare and depend on page setup manager.

so... look at the top of that pop-up you screenshot, instead of the bottom: change the PUBLISH TO and do what you need. PLOTTER NAMED IN PAGESETUP is the option that lets you change number of copies in case you were wondering.

Thanks to both of you.

I now created a new drawing file with a page setup "Publish to PDF" by using "PDFcreator".

BTW There is no problem when "plot" to PDF by using the page setup above.

I also removed the "model" from the list in the Publish dialog for simplification.

As you see that the plot device has unexpectedly been overrided to "DWG to PDF" in the screenshot.

And the "Plot and Publish Details" are:

File: C:\Sending to\Publish to PDF.dwg
Category name:
Page setup:
Device name:
Plot file path:
Paper size:

ERROR: Device not found

If you created a pagesetup to use with "PDFCREATOR, then your screenshot is ALL wrong to use that. At the top of the pop-up, instead of publish to pdf you want to select PLOTTER NAMED IN PAGESETUP.

Don't get confused by the tag PDF: you want to use an external driver, so set PUBLISH to use your external driver.

Thanks for your help. I now use "Plotter named in page setup".

But how to set "Publish" to use exturnal driver?

Thanks again.

I asked the last question because I can't see <publish to "PDF"> working for me. Did I miss something?

With your desired PDF printer, you don't need that.

Please keep following along with Dean's suggestions as it sounds like this isn't resolved 100% yet. I just want to add a side note regarding background publishing. If you have not already done so, disable it for now at least until you can get this to work (Tools > Options > Plot and Publish tab > Background processing options section, how I guided you towards this area would work for 2014 but should work for most current versions). We've encountered errors here when plotting or publishing and what works 90% of the time for those issues is to disable the background plotting and publishing options. This may not have anything to do with your current issue however, but at least you won't have to sit there for a few moments/mins after each test to see if it's working or not.

Thanks for your suggestion but it doesn't work for me - I haven't enabled the background plotting and publishing.

BTW My default output device is set to "PDFcreator".
