Proximity for Trim Command

Is there anyway to adjust the inherent proximity the program uses for the trim command? The issue I am running into is that certain line intersections will not trim easily. When zooming way in, I can determine that yes, there is a gap, but the gap is almost infinitesimally small. If my intended output for my drawing is let's say 1/8"=1'-0", then I am comfortable with my drawing not being accurate on the microscopic level. Is there a way to tell AutoCAD to not care about these tiny gaps?

Related question, I have now noticed that sometimes the trim command adds a gap after trimming. I have two lines that I just drafted, intersecting at 90 degrees. I highlight these lines, activate the trim tool, trim one line, and the other line now does not register an intersection.

Try FLATTEN command so all lines go to zero elevation.

I would love to, but that involves CAD crashing, which I hear is best to avoid.

There is no proximity setting. Trim trims exactly, unless you are working in very large coordinates where rounding can creep in.

There should be no gaps or overlaps after using trim.

You might also be viewing objects on different planes from each other.

FLATTEN crashes ACAD?  All the time?

Assuming you are and want to be drafintg in 2d, select a line and then select similar and then look at your properties. do any of them have a value in the Z direction? if so cahnge them to 0.

Also can you measure the gaps? some times the display does not represent the geometry data so it looke like there is a gap when there is not. 

if this is the case you can try to update your service pack or perhaps a display driver and it may correct the issue.

How can you determine this?  By looking at pixels on a screen?

Not reliable.

What do you have viewres set to (not that any resolution or visual test is reliable).

Attach your file here that exhibits this behavior and end all doubt.

Woooooo! Elevation problems suck.

Options >> Drafting >> Object Snap Options

Turn on REPLACE Z VALUE WITH CURRENT ELEVATION

Change variable ELEVATION with 0'-0"

Note: This will only help with future problems. I've added this to the company acaddoc.lsp since our primary work is in 2D.
