problems with viewbase

Anonymous
Not applicable

hi

I am working with autocad 2016 creating ga's of building structures.

all of the parts are xrefs with detail layouts

my problem occurs when i need to change things a little, say extend a column and move a baseplate.

i alter the column xref and reload it in the main dwg, move the base plate.

then when i go back to paper space and update the viewbase, the view now shows the new baseplate shaded as it should, and also shows the old baseplate position not shaded.

I have had this problem of showing historical objects in viewbase layouts. i have tried generating a new viewbase but they are still there. ive tried deleating the layout creating a new one then generating a new viewbase but they sill persist?

the main file size is about 24mb.

im running on windows 10 and running all the updates available for autocad?

any help on how i can recover these viewbases would be very helpful as the last time i encountered this problem i ended up redrawing the whole assembly in a fresh drawing.

thanks in advance

Hi @Anonymous, I copied your model into a new drawing and ws able to create views that (at least to me) appear complete but only if I use the Shading with hidden option.

I was actually able to get your original drawing to work in this manner too.

Thoughts?

It Does Show the rest of the lines, However, it is too blurry to use as a set of blueprints, Which I what I used to do in AutoCAD 2015.

Hi @Anonymous,

Does changed the default Shaded View Quality from 100dpi to 300dpi help?  You have to do this before you create your views.

To make this change, rt-click the layout tab and select Drafting Standard Setup

I don't seem to have that option when I rt-click on the layout tab. Here is a screenshot with the options I have

Hi @Anonymous,

Try the following:

1- Copy all the 3d geometries from the original file (Ctl+shift+c)

2- Create a new file in 2017

3- Paste all geomety inside the new file (ctl+v)

4- Purge the new file..

5- Use viewbase - and check the results to see if there are any missing geometries..

6- if there are still some missing gerometries in the nviewports created with viewbase in the new file, load and run the lisp VBUP..

*** Are there still any missing geometries in the viewports??

Regards..

Hi @Anonymous & @john.vellek,

I replied to the comment I saw in my email- didn't see jhons' next posts..

It seems He advised the same thing and copied every thing to a new file 🙂

Regards...

I only seem to get this problem when working with drawing that use xrefs and these xrefs are within the views. These issues are triggered when the xref is opened and edited on its own and then the drawing containing the said view is opened.

I have also had it happen when the layout with the view is open, I then edit the the xref and save it ,going back to the main drawing and when I reload the xref while still in paperspace.

Also had when I exact data from a series of off drawing into a table. If I do this When these drawings are closed, when I open them up again I get the dead view and the message this drawing was saved in an earlier version.

So I avoid intentionally doing these things and seem to have less problem with them.

As soon as I start to notice any problems with my views I go back into model space unload the xrefs, update the view then go back to model space and reload the xrefs. This usually put right the view. Similarly redefining any block involved also needs to be done. A bit of a pain to do this but I find it's easier that copying and pasting into a fresh drawing and starting again.

Hopefully this might help somebody narrow down the cause of the bug and develop a better workaround or even a fix as I find this function a lot better than using view that using viewports to present 3d assemblies.

Hi, Thanks for your post,

I'm not too sure what you mean by "unload the xrefs". Could you please explain how to do this?

Hi @Anonymous,

You can access the Drafting Standard by rt-clicking the layout tab.

Hi John,

Adjusting the DPI to 300 Does make the Color viewport much clearer, However, As I am using the Viewbase to create Plan and elevation views, I really need just the lines to be visible without shading or color. This is especially important for any section views

Hi @Anonymous

I totally understand and I just provided the info as a workaround.  A thought...if you have it turned on what happens if you plot and don't have the shaded properties set?

John,

I really appreciate all your effort and your patience with me.

I attached  a drawing that has a perfect viewbase done in AutoCAD 2015 in Layout 1, A broken viewbase done in AutoCAD 2017 in Layouut 3, And a default viewport in Layout 2. Maybe you can see where the differences are with this drawing.

...if you have it turned on what happens if you plot and don't have the shaded properties set?

I'm a bit unclear what you mean by this

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the additional drawing.

I started a new drawing and then copied element by element from one drawing to the other. I check ed a new view in the new drawing at each step. It worked up to the point where I copied horizontal or diagonal braces.

I am talking to the Dev team soon and will try to get this worked into the discussion.

Thanks so much for your patience.

I see exactly what you mean. As soon as I took off the Diagonal Braces I was able to do a successful viewbase again.

Hi @Anonymous, I am glad that you can duplicate. Can you try block editing them and saving them to see if that makes a difference? Perhaps they were created in a different version or perhaps they are corrupt.

Please post your results.

Ok, This will have to be a tomorrow thing. Its home time.

Just FYI, These Diagonal Braces were created about 6 months ago in AutoCAD 2015. I have recently updated them making them Dynamic blocks with different visibility states in AutoCAD 2017. However, This issue was apparent before I changed them

I'll let you know what results I get tomorrow

Thanks for your patience on this - I hope we can get to the bottom of it. Do you have other dynamic blocks in the model? I am wondering if the dynamic part is screwing things up.

At any rate, have a great evening and thanks for helping me get to the root of this issue.

xrefs are external references, like blocks, only they are stored in an external drawing file
