We normally work in a current paperspace layout tab, working within the model space viewport (viewport is frozen to maintain the zoomed scale). The problem occurs when trying to copyclip (copy to the clipboard) some objects from one model space viewport to either:
1) Another paperspace layout tab’s model space viewport (within the same drawing)
2) Another paperspace layout tab’s model space viewport (in a different drawing)
The actual problem: It will work fine for a number of instances, then it will start “freezing” after one selects the objects to copyclip and hit “enter” (computer unresponsive, if one keeps trying to click on the screen the dwg will grey out and its title will add the text “not responding”) – this will last anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds, and then everything works fine. For a while after that it will do that sequence every time one tries the operation, until finally it will do this sequence but when one pastes into the new viewport it will act as if it worked, but no objects will actually paste. The only way to “solve” either version of the problem is to restart Acad, or reboot (I can’t remember if just restarting Acad is ever not adequate to fix the problem). Once the problem starts to occur, it never gets better on its own.
I don’t know if the problem occurs in other situations (from the model space layout tab, for example) since we normally don’t run into these other situations. It doesn’t seem to matter if the Acad dwgs are large or not, or if other files are open (although outlook is always open, and often at least one web page with firefox).
