Printer Issue - Partially Printed Text

I recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2020 from 2019, and it changed my printer settings. My OS is Windows 10, and I'm using the same printer (HP 7612) and sheet size (tabloid small margin). The print area is now positioned differently, so it caused prints to run off the edge, and some of the text was only half printed (some letters missing). I resized my titleblock for the new printable area, so that's fixed, but it's still only partially printing printing the text. In the examples I'm attaching, Preview.jpg shows what it should print, and Print.jpg is what actually printed. On this example it's only the text in the lower left corner (the box around it had no problem). It seems to arbitrarily choose what not to print. Sometimes it's dimension text; sometimes it's MText, and sometimes it's regular text. All of this text is in model space, and I am printing from paper space. All of the text is on a printable layer (wouldn't show up in the preview otherwise). My titleblock is in paper space, and it doesn't seem to be having issues printing text yet.

Another similar text issue on another drawing: I have several Qleaders on the drawing; they all have a text frame on, set through properties. Some of them print with just the frame and leader, and some print text, frame, and leader. If I delete one not printing and copy one that is, it works, but they were all copied from the same initial leader in the beginning! I didn't have this problem a couple weeks ago when I was using 2019.

I do currently have a less convenient workaround, so I'm not out, just down. The workaround involves more steps, is more time consuming, and doesn't result in the same quality of print. I can print to pdf and print the pdf on the printer just fine, but the lines aren't as bold. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know what you got.

Hi,

can you please change the text style to use a standard font like "ARIAL.TTF"?

>> I can print to pdf and print the pdf on the printer

If printing to PDF is working, then in general the printing side from AutoCAD seems to be OK.

You might

  • update the driver for your printer (which is already quite hard to find HP drivers for Window 10)
  • or install a generic driver for PCL
  • create a new PC3 file from scratch for that new driver

I did update the printer firmware already today before I wrote the post in an effort to do my due diligence. I just changed it to Arial, and it's still having issues. This time it printed the whole 'R' in the different font, but the '(1)' is still missing (attached photo). Laying the prints over one another shows the print cut off at the same point. As in, the Stylus font is a little more condensed, so it missed part of the 'R'. The Arial font cut off in the same spot, but it's a wider font, so the whole 'R' is showing. I tried a couple other things: make the text Mtext, Copy a leader that is printing, Put the text in paper space. The last one worked, but I shouldn't have to put all my text in ps to make sure it shows during a print.

I'll have to Google your other two suggestions: generic driver for PCL and new PC3 for a new driver. I've got very limited experience in this area.

I don't dispute this is an HP issue because I really don't know what's happening, but it just seemed more of an AutoCAD version problem since these problems began when I updated. The printer was printing these pages just fine from 2019. Also, it did print the missing text in the other drawing when I copied another Qleader that was printing, and it just now printed the text when it was in paper space.

Hi,

>> I did update the printer firmware

Well, I meant the drivers installed on your workstation, not the firmware.

>> generic driver for PCL

Here you find a HP generic printer driver (use the PCL one) >>>click<<<

>> new PC3 for a new driver.

Please find >>>here<<< the description for how to create a new PC3 file from scratch.
