Possible lisp command/ general question

Is there a lisp command or any other way to trace a line by holding down the left mouse button. 

In essence, it would be like the lasso selector, but would draw the outline of the lasso instead of selecting what was inside it.

It takes a little getting used to, and has its limitations, but be sure to check the options [Lines vs. Polyline, increment size, etc.].
