Polyline hatching, "No valid objects selected"

Hi everyone,

I have a question about creating polylines.

I created a shape using lines that I'd like to be able to join into a polyline and hatch. I've tried using the PEDIT command by entering the following into my command bar:

"Pedit"

"M" (multiple)

Selecting my shape

"Join"

Fuzz distance = "0"

but once I press "enter," it brings back the dropdown menu that includes the join button and my Command Bar says "No valid objects selected." Any ideas what could be going on here?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Here is a copy of the shape I'm trying to hatch. My apologies, what do you
mean by shape entities? Still pretty new to autocad.

Thanks

Hi,

sorry, in a PNG I can't select the shape to see which object type it is, I can't see your drawing settings, ...

Please upload the DWG and not a screenshot from your entities.

>> My apologies, what do you mean by shape entities?

It was your wording, you wrote "I created a shape".

Then you wrote about lines, but the title mentions polylines, so I just want to know what it is now.

Hi,

open your drawing, select one of the objects and look to the property window ==> property Closed.

Every segment is a closed polyline, so it starts at point 1, goes to point 2 and closes back to 1. It is by default not correct to close a polyline that only has 2 vertices (exception might be a arc segment of a polyline to get a circle-like polyline object).

And when you start _HATCH and select any of these objects then it does not find an area (as these polylines have AREA = 0, not possible to fill anthing into.

So select them and change the property closed to no.

And when starting _HATCH you have two options, one is to select object, the second option is to just show a point within the area you like to hatch and AutoCAD searches then the borders for this point ==> and that worked well with your drawing, even with the closed polylines.
