Hi

Recently I downloaded AutoCad 2017 onto my laptop, but I haven't been able to use it all that much because most of the commands are tiny, for example the Layers Properties menu. The words and window itself are all squished together and even the best magnifying glass doesn't help! Even at that, the program runs very slowly, but I can't understand why. I bought my PC nearly specifically to run this program, keeping all specs in mind for it, but no joy. In the screenshot i have here you can see the issue with font type. PLEASE HELP.

My PC has the following specs:

Windows 10 (64-bit) @ 2.60GHz

8GB RAM

Intel i-7 quad core

NVIDIA GeForce GTX960M w/ 4GB vRAM

Thanks

Hi,

start the Autodesk Desktop App, it shows you that AutoCAD Update 1 is available, install this and the different font sizes in the property dialog and layer dialog are solved.

Welcome to the forums, D.Odufaigh!

This is a known issue.  Google "Odd text display within user interface elements in AutoCAD".  There is an update to help, and it has directions on how to adjust your Windows settings to help.

Hope this helps,

Kenny

Hi,

How long did you have Autodesk Desktop App open? Just started and closed? Then no, it does not connect all the time to make sure it does not block your system/processor too much as well as not blocking your internet connection.

Start AutoCAD, start command _ABOUT and show us the screenshot of that dialog, so we can see if Update 1 is installed or not (I guess no, because you would not have that display problems).

Thanks Kennyj

I have tried all the settings changes and still no luck. I have the download installed and it is still out of proportion. When I changed both the scaling and resolution, the other icons begin to get bigger, but like in the picture I sent before, the properties window is still all scrunched together. My recommended resolution is 3840 x 2160, and even at that some other applications run smaller than I've seen on other pc's, but nothing compared to AutoCad

I had AutoDesk Open for a few minutes but it didn't indicate after that long that an update available. If the update is the "Service Pack 1", then yes I do have it installed, but if there is another one available then that could be the issue.

Hi,

>> I had AutoDesk Open for a few minutes

No, it could need hours.

Make sure it is in logged in state and it can connect to Autodesk's server.

>> If the update is the "Service Pack 1"

No, "Update 1" is different to "Service Pack 1" (and therefor I would like to ask guys at Autodesk what sense that makes to sometimes call it "Update" and the other time call it "Service Pack". It's so .... )

Hi

Okay thanks very much, I'll give that a go and keep you posted.

Is there any way to download the update outside of the AutoDesk app? And I was very confused by it for a while with the Service Pack and Update thing, never knew there was actually a difference.

Hello

Welcome to the Autodesk / AutoCAD Forums !

1) You can download the SP1 for ACAD 2017 from here :

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autocad-2017-service...

But when I see your ABOUT screen capture, you don't need it !

Because it is already installed ...

2) The 2017.1 comes from the Autodesk Application Manager, so ...

3) The 2017.1 solves some (but not all) display problems with a vertical resolution > 1600 pixels  (for exemple 4K display) !

And the 2017.1 can solve display problems with very high vertical resolution on Win 10 but NOT on Win 8 or Win 7 !!

Regards, Patrice

PS: Sorry for my multiple updates on my message but I had some Internet problems !

Hi,

I have not found one (yet). I do understand your confusion and I don't understand Autodesk why they don't put it to the downloads site (maybe they want to force the users to have the Desktop App installed, not kind at all).

Hi Pat,

@braudpat

SP1 is not Update 1, that are two different things!

Hi @Anonymous,

Can I know what kind of subscription is your AutoCAD?

If you are on Desktop Subscription, you should be able to see Update 1 on your Autodesk desktop app.

the right update for your problem is  AutoCAD®2017.1 Update.

it should fix your high PPI display issue for many user interface elements, such as command line, layer manager, palettes, etc.

If you are on subscription and still not seeing this update showing on your Autodesk desktop app, you can try to go to: Autodesk Acccount ,to install this update.

thank you.

Hi,

>> If you are on Desktop Subscription, you should be able to see Update 1

Does that in the opposite mean that customers without subscription don't get updates any more? Is that the reason why the update can't be found in the download section?

(could get an interesting discussion 😉 )

Hi Alfred,

Only customers on a valid form of subscription are currently eligible to receive updates (starting with the 2017.1 Update).  For these customers, the updates can be downloaded via the Autodesk Desktop App, or from the Accounts portal.

We are currently looking into making updates available to students as well.

Thank you.

Hello Darragh,

We expect the updates to be available to students in the near future.  Once available, you should be able to install them from the Autodesk Desktop App.

Thank you.
