pdf import only importing text

Anonymous
Not applicable

I used pdfimport the other day and it worked great. Now with a new file, the only content that seems to be correctly imported is the text. I will say that when I highlight a line in the pdf and "bring to front" it exports correctly. However, I can't determine a reasonable way to highlight only the lines in the pdf. Furthermore, adobe continues to crash if I highlight so much as a box and try to bring it to the front. There are 2 layers in the pdf and as far as I can tell, they have the exact same content. One is 'layername-las', while the other just 'layername'

Attached you will find the current selected options when importing along with a converted pdf-dwg showing only txt. The apparent line is the "brought to front" line.

What is the correct way to import this vectors in this file?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Is it possible to attach the file(s) you are trying to import into AutoCAD (2017?)? Is it possible that the PDF is a scan? If the lines are only raster images stored in the PDF then they can not be imported but the PDF can be attached.

You also mention that Adobe is crashing. Can you tell me how you are using Adobe in the process?

First off, thanks for the help. I put the pdf below. As for adobe: I would try selecting groups of content (not unlike autocad, when dragging a box over multiple items), and select bring to front. . . Then it would stop responding and I would have to re-start adobe. Maybe its not originally from a dwg. Could that be be a problem?

We were able to confirm your findings.  Importing with AutoCAD 2017 produced (378) Mtext objects and only (1) Polyline?

Attached is a PDF2DWG conversion (an old popular cheap application) in case you need to get your file going now.

Hi @Anonymous,

When I imported your file I selected the Raster Images checkbox.  I have attached the resulting file.

Capture.PNG

I also ran the import without this option and I still get the linework. I am using AutoCAD 2017 Update1

Hi @john.vellek. I see that you have the complete file in the preview there. I managed to get the same thing. However, when I click 'okay' and move onto the actual drawing there are still no lines. Thanks for the input though. I'm just gonna get to drawing and hope this bug gets handled later.

Hi @Anonymous,

Please check to see that you have the hotfixes and other updates installed from here. If you open the attached file from my earlier post the lines are present.

@john.vellek I stand corrected. Thanks. This was well worth the time to research. Please let me know which hotfix this bug fix is in. Or, should I move forward with all hotfixes?

Hi @Anonymous,

Without going through all the Readme files on what is included in each, I would simply apply them all (my desktop manager Application does this for me already).

I'm having the same problem importing PDF entities into AutoCAD 2017 from a PDF file provided by a client.  Only the text is coming into AutoCAD 2017.  As far as I know, I have all the fixes installed.  I also use AutoCAD MEP 2017.  I'm attaching the PDF file.  I don't need the raster image architectural background to import into AuotCAD - only the red and blue text and symbols.  Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous,

I was able to import this without issue. What version of AutoCAD are you using?

I am using AutoCAD 2017. Markups to the PDF were created in Bluebeam Revu by engineers. I tried "flattening" the symbols/entire drawing before importing into AutoCAD, but the symbols (many green triangles, blue circles, etc) are not coming into AutoCAD. I also contacted Bluebeam support. They said to flatten and then export the PDF file before importing to AutoCAD. I did that, but the markup symbols are still not coming into AutoCAD. If you can figure this out, it would help me SO much. Thanks!!

PDF is attached.

Hi @Anonymous,

I don't see another PDF attached. What happens if you do import the raster architectural plan at the same time as the markup? are you then able to see the correct data? Could you then delete the plan?

I figured out how to do it myself. Instructions given by the Bluebeam Support staff did not work for me (e.g. export and flatten, etc.). I just "printed" my PDF file (one containing symbols and text on layers) using the Adobe PDF driver. Then I imported the latter into AutoCAD 2017. Everything showed up when done this way.
