PDF fonts not showing up correctly

We have just installed AutoCAD 2018.  I plotted a PDF file from a drawing that was created in AutoCAD 2017.  The PDF looks fine on my end, but when I send it to my client the fonts are messed up.  I opened the same file in 2017, plotted it with the same plotter, and resent it to him.  That version is fine on his end.  In both cases the fonts are set to be captured/embedded.  It seems like the new version is not embedding the font.  Has anyone else had this issue?  Any suggestions?

It was a freeware font we downloaded.  Are you saying that the font file may be corrupted or pirated from another Adobe font?

Most likely: everything points to your 'freeware' being locked from being shared.

Do a test and find out: and remember, 'free' content always has a price, today its about ticking off one of your clients. For Free. Tomorrow it could be worse.

I don't disagree about the "free" aspect of things off the internet. At the same time, we've been using this font for years on multiple versions of AutoCAD (2013 to 2017) and other software without any trouble making literally thousands of PDFs shared to hundreds of people on different systems, computers, software platforms, etc. If we had just downloaded this font, then I would have just dumped it after finding the problem, but with all the history we have using it I have a hard time seeing this as a problem that is not caused by AutoCAD 2018.

Most likely: but until that changes either in the next patch, or R2019, R2025, or R2030 you know what to do to address today's reality.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am unsure what is different with this font in AutoCAD 2018 but I see the same behavior @Alfred.NESWADBA describes.

I tried this version of the font and while it seems to perform better.

I tried that version and it resulted in Adobe rendering some of the text correctly, but there were still errors in the file.  Looks like our only options are to just use AutoCAD 2017 the way we have been or change our standard font.

Hey, I had the same issue and the problem was that the font was an Open Type format (.otf) not a True Type (.ttf).  Reinstalling the font did the trick. It took me only three hours of my life to figure that out 😞
