Paste from one drawing to another not working

I recently set up two new drawings, in order to eliminate extra layers and etc.  I am not able to copy and paste from one of these drawings to another.  The copy and paste commands are actually working with other drawings- I am even able to copy and paste something from an old drawing into one of the news ones, and vise versa, but not anything between the two new drawings.  It has to be something in the way the new drawings are set up.  Probably something very simple.  I have tried re-starting  (many times), I even upgraded to 2024 (and have restarted a couple of times afterwards).  This is happening on both PC and laptop (which is still 2022), so it isn't the device or the version.  I have not found an answer in hours of searching online. Please help!

One method.....If Design Center works, make a block of everything in the drawing you wish to copy and add it to the other drawing.

In the future, if you are having similar problems, avoid complicating things by additionally having to deal with a change to program version.

Thank you so much for answering. I tried making a block, it still would not
paste. It appears to be copying (I am not getting error messages). Agreed
re updating, however I thought that might solve the problem, and it is
occurring on the device that I have not updated as well. Any other ideas?

Try using AUDIT, RECOVER, or DXFOUT / DXFIN ....

@jldsn Expand your commandline to 10-12 lines tall, then watch the commandline as you CTRL+C to see if it says something about failing. Let us know what all it says, all of it.

Then watch it for any message (not necessarily an error) when you CTRL+V and let us know what it says exactly please.

Sharing those two files here for others to do the above instead is also an option if you can do so.

A perhaps over-obvious possibility:  The Layer(s) of object(s) you copy from one drawing is (are) Off or Frozen in the other drawing that you paste them into?

Without the files that you are using we all are working in the dark. You have not told us what brings you to the conclusion that it is not working. so I will ask a few questions.

1. verify the number of items in the drawing that you are trying to upload to and see if that number changes when you copy into it.

2. view extents and see if items are far apart from each other.

3 don't know how the files are set up because you have not shared but have you tried purging the file.

4 are there any xref's in the file that you are copying from? if there is a file of the same name in the drawing you are copying to it there will be a problem.

5 upload the files so we don't have to guess.

Hi,

This is the second time trying to share.

Drawing One:  trying to copy the title block in the paper space and paste into paper space in Drawing Two

Drawing Two:  trying to copy the very simple plan view in the model space and paste it in the model space of Drawing One

Drawing Three is an older drawing, however in the model space you can see in the blue box that I was able to paste the plan view from Drawing Two, easily as usual, so this is why I think it has to do with how the two newer drawings were set up.

Thank you to everyone who is trying to help, I really appreciate it

Thank you for taking the time to reply. It's not that, I would have been able to figure that out 🙂

Just uploaded them. Very very simple drawings that I am having the issue with. No XREFS. Tried a little purging but wasn't sure if I might be purging things I actually need. Thank you so much

Thanks for the three files that each report 5-xrefs missing: these purged from pretty much each one too BTW
Blocks.................... | Purged : 590
Registry Applications..... | Purged : 16
Annotation Scales......... | Purged : 11
Layers.................... | Purged : 40
Line types................ | Purged : 6
Dimensions................ | Purged : 24
Text Styles............... | Purged : 17
Mleader Styles............ | Purged : 1
Groups.................... | Purged : 784
Raster Images............. | Purged : 2
PDF UnderLays............. | Purged : 2
Xref Status............... | Xrefs not found

Each file also have a bunch of layers frozen too, which when thawed, appear to show more content.

Between which two files are you trying to copy/paste? I see a small-ish room in one, titleblocks way out of scale to a paperspace defined page, and your large master ALL PROJECT IS IN IT file.

Then there is this in DRAWING ONE's one and only layout when I do a ZOOM EXTENTS

An this in DRAWING TWO's modelspace when I also do ZOOM EXTENTS

And this in DRAWING THREE

made a block of your 42x30 inch title block in drawing one, brought it to the paperspace side of drawing two. inserted it at 0,0 and zoomed extents. nothing showed on the screen, tried to grab using crossing and there were multiple items including the tries you had bringing the titleblocks in. erased all the items which were far apart from each other, now only have title block.

Thanks!  So it sounds like the pastes were present but not where I inserted them?

Thank you.  Drawing Three is older and no problems with it.  I sent it to show you all that I was able to paste into it, so please just disregard that one.

Drawing One I specifically set up all new with only layers I wanted to use and those the application will not allow me to delete.  Drawing Two was a "save as" from Drawing One.  I froze layers that could not be deleted and I don't intend to use.  I didn't draw in those frozen layers, it's just one tiny room.  After switching devices and emailing the file to myself, the drawings have taken on a bunch of layers that I didn't set up, I don't know how that happened.  What I'm not able to do is copy and paste between Drawing One and Drawing Two.  What did I do wrong?

I see the little dots in the model space in Drawing Two.  I had seen them already. No matter how much I zoom in, they're just dots.  You're so kind to spend time helping.  I still don't understand the problem.  And now the room appears to be missing from both drawings.

you are able to paste but you are pasting into paperspace and there is already something there but far away. go to paperspace and select with a bow from the southeast to the northwest and it will catch everything there erase the items. draw a circle zoom extents, if the circle is not there repeat erasing what is there. you could erase all and that will not purge anything.
