Osnap not working on Xrefs

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've referenced in an Xref into a new drawing in Civil 3D 2013 and stuff, I started drawing a polyline that I wanted to snap to the xref but it wasn't working so I tried a few different things like circles, blocks etc. However nothing was working. I tried a completely different xref and nothing was working again. I think it's to do ith my Civil 3D and not the drawings.

Any Ideas? Thanks

what is the OSNAP option you are trying to use?  And what c3d objects are you trying to snap to?

If you put xref into Defpoints layer and turn layer 0 off, or freeze it... this happens.

Using settings like Endpoint, Midpoint, Intersect etc.
Happens for all xrefs and blocks.

Try changing OSNAPZ setting.

It seems to be doing it mainly with the insertion point on Blocks and Xrefs

At a guess, it'w working properly, it's jsut that the insertion point of the XREF is off screen.  Try drawing a line from INS (pick the xref) to somewhare on screen, then do a Zoom Extents.

And the INS that will be found for a block inside the XREF will be the INS of the XREF.... Osnap's won't drill down throught the xref to find the block insertion.

Or ask the person who made the c3d drawing use EXPORTTOAUTOCAD and try the new drawing.

Probably what you are snapping to is a hatch pattern in xref... that's why it's not snapping. By default, AutoCAD has turned on the option not to snap to object snap.

You can turn that off by going to Options >>> right-click n select Options >>>> Drafting >>> Object Snap Option >>> Uncheck it.

I hope this helps
