Open From Vault - default to $ folder?

Does anyone know what you have to do to get Open from Vault to default to the $ root folder instead of perpetually remembering the last folder you browsed to?

This is a problem because the search tool only searches that sub-folder, you have to change the context manually to the $ folder every time you want to search the full Vault for a file.

Cheers!

Hi @Neil_Cross,

I don't work in Vault so I don't have a ready answer. I am inviting @reidmatthew to the discussion to see if he might be able to offer some insight.

Hi @Neil_Cross . I have tested this with my Vault and Inventor 2019 and am seeing the same behavior you describe. I do not know of a way to change where the Open From Vault dialog defaults to. I will do some looking and asking on my side. But in the meantime, another option may be using the Advanced Search instead of the basic search on the left-hand side. The Advanced search seems to default to a higher level in the Vault so other aspects of Vault like Items can also be searched. It is a couple of extra clicks, but it will give users the power to do searches across the Vault.

Thanks guys - I was aware that the advanced search was available but it's no quicker than using those couple of clicks to change the "Look In" field to $... both options have to be done every single time a user searches for something.

Never mind, I was hoping there would be some kind of reset switch for it but obviously there isn't.  Cheers for looking into it.

@Neil_Cross Just wanted to let you know I have followed up with the Vault product team and this would need to be submitted to the Vault Ideas Forum as a feature request to get this behavior changed in a future release of Vault. Let me know if you have any questions about this process.

Yea I'm alright on that actually, I'll pass.  One of my death bed regrets will be wishing I never spent as much time as I have done writing Vault Idea Station posts.

I'll just tell the users it can't be done.

Cheers

Neil.
