On one Else Can Open Drawing File When Drawing is Already Open as READ ONLY

I just had a coworker show me that they opened an AutoCAD drawing file (2017) as "Read Only", but when someone else tried to open it, they got an error message saying the drawing file was already open.

Any thoughts on what could cause this?

thanks!

Hi @murray-clack,

Where is this file located? Is it on a Windows server or a cloud-storage location?  The OS handles the file locking and is not done by AutoCAD.

HI,

when any CAD drawing is opened AutoCAD create .dwl file ( lock file ) and it should be automatically deleted when the dwg is closed. if there is nobody open that file try to delete any .dwl file that relate to your drawing .
