Numbers of measure are not displayed / visible

Hello everyone,

today was the first day i have installed and worked with AutoCad.

I tried to copy the tutorial videos of AutoCad but unfortunately, when trying to measure an object, the problem arose, on which I already hang all day.

The value of the dimensioning are not visible or not displayed.

I looked in the forum with help from the search and tried kind of:

  • to scale from one scale to a other scale
  • to change/activate other Layers
  • different versions of dimensioning (BEM, BEMLINEAR)
  • create greater Object as 1000 mm

I have a brandnew installation from AutoCad 2017 "Studentversion" and all available Updates are installed.

p.s. Since I am not so sure in English that I can be sure everything has been explained, I have attached a picture for a better understanding:

Rule no. 1

Don't use layer DEFPOINTS unless you know it's what you want.

and is your layer 0  Frozen?

No, i have tried many times and with different settings.

but the value is not shown up.

It is the standard layer, i tried only the stuff from the videos and there is nothing compare to see.

MEASURE =/= DIMENSION these are two different things. Measure will give you values, Dimension will create elements on your drawing.

If you are dimensioning in model space and the dimension letter height is much smaller than the scale it would appear as if it were not there. Have you tried changing the text height in the dimension properties window?

Use DISTANCE or LIST command or this:

Measure to find length is not a command to use

It may be time you asked your teacher for some hands-on tutorials and guidance 🙂

Looks like Dimensioning icon.

Attach your drawing.

Could be that your dimstyle is not the right scale so it can be off the screen.

In this screencast i use both commands. i use measure, then i use dimension. Then i change properties of the dimension in the properties window.
