And the click (to drag ..) was in the column of layer names?

If you have multiple monitors - try using the Layer Palette on another monitor
try a different monitor resolution,
or a very simple cable mouse,
things like that (no problem with the AutoCAD program).

Your description sounds exactly like this: the click was not executed as a click in a marked area within the layer name column,
therefore I suspect a graphics or mouse problem.

Same for me. The selection is switching to single layer after starting to do the drag'n'drop. I'm using a high-res monitor on a thinkpad (not official supported hardware). See specs below.

I'm just curious. Is there a "non mouse" method to move a layer to a group filter? Would be very useful.

AutoCAD 2020.1.2
Lenovo Thinkpad T550

WIN 10 Pro 64 Bit

i7-5600U

8Gb RAM

Nvidia Geforce Mobile 940M

Monitor Res: 2880x1620

For someone like me who heavily relied on layer group filter, This is hopeless. I guess staying in AutoCAD 2019 isn't that bad at all. Thanks you for this post.

>>"AutoCAD 2019 isn't that bad "

You tested a newer version and the issue appeared?

If yes, is your 2019 running at the same PC?

Hopeless? Why?

This problem is not the same for all of use, so still hope for you and others 🙂

Graphics or windows things, i guess.

Yes there ist, but it is not practicable without a tool which offer a gui for that,
except you need it the same way like me: Standards! Everytime the same.. then it is practicable.

The command is: -LAYER
hidden Option: Filter

I use it to create my "Set up my Standard Layerfilters" into every DWG i want by one click (a menu macro).

For example i have a group filter "123" and i want to add all layer with the last character is "T".
-layer
filter
edit
123
_add
*t

@trialdummy2015 and others

for example my 2022: https://recordit.co/p35saj3KGQ

I can confirm this is the same in AutoCAD LT 2021. I cannot just drag and drop from the layer region into the filter section. When I select a layer, then second click and drag, it just draws a box for multiple layer selection. I'm using the latest 2021 patch by the way.

Hi,

I can confirm this is the same in AutoCAD LT 2021
It works in LT2021(.0.0) as well in the latest/curent version

Which productversion  are you running?

I'm using the latest 2021 patch by the way.
Are you sure, what is the latest patch = your productversion?

When I select a layer, then second click and drag, it just draws a box for multiple layer selection.
Ahh, that is another problem (i guess). Sounds strange.
You select a layer (layername highlighted)
Do you really Pick (to drag) in the Name column?

Screencast welcome

start record, start ABOUT to show your version, then go to layer palette and tray to

Drag&drop a layer into a layer group-filter

Thanks!

I am running 2022.1.1.

See my video below, which might help describe the issue. But yes, I'm trying to pick in the name column, but try other areas too. See the following Video Clip.

Note in the video, when I'm moving over from the layers to filters, I am holding down my left mouse button.

Cheers

@Lynea-Jon Watched your video, what are the filter parameters/settings?
what year version of AutoCAD did this work in before for you?

I believe the last version that worked was 2021, although I couldn't tell you exactly what patch.

As a test, I've just fired up my laptop and it behaves exactly the same.

I'm unaware of any particular filter related settings. Which ones might you be referring to?

Thanks 🙂

Your problem is another one,

it works in 2021 and also in 2022 (also in 2022.1.1)

Windows, Graphic, Monitor service-programs, I don't know.

Is it a laptop? (integrated monitor or external? - Try it on both)

What is your resolution and DPI Scaling?

Perhaps there is a Problem (just guessing)

As simple test: Run FULL-HD and DPI-Scaling 100% (in Win10 you will find two DPI Settings)

hmm

He if OFF the track,

there is no setting and your problem is another one,

your problem has nothing to do with layer filters!

The Selection and Dragging  doesn't work.

Your Laptop too?

And ACAD is installed on your system, no remote things?

The one I reported it on was my PC. DPI scaling is set to 100%. However, I have since tried it on my laptop as well, and it behaves exactly the same as my PC.

Laptop:

1080x1920 @ 60hz. DPI scaling @ 100% (i.e. 96 DPI)

PC :

3440x1440 @ 120hz. DPI scaling @ 100% (i.e. 96 DPI)

2 things to note

  • Both machines are running Windows 11. I wonder if it's that and a bug Autodesk need to iron out in terms of compatibility.
  • In response to the last post, you're right, it's the dragging action. *However*, I can still drag blocks/hatches etc from model space to the tool palette.

AutoDesk don't need to iron out it, IF this is the problem.

Why? Because wether 2021 or 2022 is supported for Win11.

(Who in hell is running such programs on a unsupported OS in a professional, productive environment?)

Sorry, but i am really surprised!

And YES, it's possible the problem - but i can not check this for your.

It doesn't matter, but how is it from the ADC? [CTRL+2]

Can you drag&drip from there to xxx Just to know that dragging works in some palettes (or not).

@Lynea-Jon can you share a sample DWG file for testing? What you want to do can fail in AutoCAD R2019 through R2022 here when I tested it.

Windows 11 has been officially released (ie no longer in beta). I have no idea why you think Windows 11 is an unsupported OS though - Autodesk clearly state full Windows 11 support.

Drag and drop from other things (including Design Centre as suggested) also work fine. It's literally just the layers dialogue.

I still suspect this is the reason. DWG attached.

Hi,

thank you for this link, it is from 3.November and just to new for me, i didn't know that.

And it is not in list as supported OS in system requirements (where i looked in)

But "fully supporting" doesn't mean that all works fine.

I know about some problems with Win11..

And, it is just an idea that it could be the problem, i don't have Win11 to test it on my workstation.

Let us ask other win11 users!

@Anonymous  or @haivu2508 - Would you please test this issue on your systems https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/not-able-to-select-and-drag-layer-to-a-new-layer-group-filter/td-p/9269057
