MTEXT - defining sublists

Hi, I'm almost sure the solution is posted here somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

I'm trying to create 4 lists, each in a new mtext entity.

All the lists need unique numbers for the entries.

So, Mtext 1/List 1 entries are numbered 1.1, 1.2, 1.3.....

Mtext 2/List 2 entries are numbered 2.1, 2.2, 2.3.....

etc.

Getting the first list to show 1.1, etc. is easy just select the list, tell it it's a numbered list, then press TAB again.

But I can't get the second piece of Mtext showing List 2 to start with 2.1.....??? and so on.

Any ideas?

Thanks

That's what I have.

In one single piece of MTEXT it's easy, but I need to start multiple MTEXTs with different starting numbers.
I can't start the second MTEXT with 2.1.....

Thanks tho

You cannot start an MTEXT with 2.1: are you by chance really looking for how to use columns in METXT instead of creating multiple stand-alone mtext objects? Explore that feature here https://www.ellenfinkelstein.com/acadblog/create-text-in-columns/

Hey there!

As it turns out, you can totally start a list with 2.1 (though there'll also be a small indent unless you change the tabs).

Create a numbered list as usual, get to number 2, hit enter, then tab. This should get you a nested 2.1, as in the example pendean posted. Then, right click > bullets and lists > uncheck allow bullets and lists (yes really). Delete the "1." and "2." lines, and recheck allow bullets and lists. Use the list as normal, save that it itemizes as 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc. It's pretty much the same process to start with 3.1, or what have you.

Why this has to be so cumbersome when it's such a common usage of numbered lists I do no know, but. . .

Workaround heavily based on this post: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/changing-the-starting-number-for-numbering-in-mtext/td-....
