Modelling a hollow cylinder with a spiral top

Hello.

I need help modelling a cylinder with spiral top.

In the attached file you can see top and bottom of the cylinder and how it looks unfolded.

Top is made with two helixes (cylinder wall thickness 2mm).

You need 2 helices for Guides

Loft the rectangular shapes

then Slice the bottom to get it flat.

Thanks for the reply!

Is there a way to get rid of the seam? It must be a solid cylinder.

I'm fairly new to AutoCAD. Would you mind writing a detailed instruction on how you did the whole thing?

You can tinker with the drawing.

Use LOFT command, and pick 2 rectangles then use Guides line (Top and bottom helix )

when you get stuck, post your questions here.

Ok, I did ran into some issues. I'm trying to skip the slice part and start with a circle base and a helix top.

However I can't choose both helix arc and circle arc as guides. Getting 114066 error.

If I pick one of them as a guide the shape is slightly crooked.

It works for me, maybe I was using the rectangles as closed 3dpolylines instead or regions as you had.

I'm having a weird glitch when trying to do so on a high enough cylinder.

Have I encountered a limitation on the command?

I only can open 2007 version.
