Model Space Empty Upon Reopening File

I just tried to reopen a drawing that I have been working on for hours only to find that the model space is completely empty. I ran the purge command just as a test and it lists all of my layers as available for purge, this tells me they are empty of all drawing elements. The only remaining items in the drawing are my titleblock and a few notes, all of which are in paper space. I even tried my .bak file and it is doing the same thing! The crazy thing is the thumbnail preview for the .dwg's still shows all of the geometry that should be in the drawing. The last thing I was doing before I closed the file was rename the sheet via the sheet set manager. When I changed the name the title block didn't update (even after ATTSYNC) so I saved the file, closed it, and then reopened it to see if it would catch on. It didn't. And as a bonus everything is missing. Any ideas?

The "preview" is not a preview of geometry, it's just an image that was created at any of the previous save processes (even must not be the last one). So at leat this image does not tell you anything about what is within the drawing.

The file you uploaded does not contain any geometry in modelspace.

If the BAK file is empty too then take the file from your previous backup.

 Unfortunately my previous backup was about 5 hours old...pretty much starting from scratch. Ohh bother.

Any tips on avoiding this in the future? Better backup system, perhaps?

Hard to say as we don't know what happend exactly.

I'm not working with sheetset's, but read some times that renaming objects can be critical, maybe that is where you start to be careful.

Where I work we heavily use xrefs. Drawings rarely contain any actual designs work, rather just annotation. The actual designs are drawn on various xrefs. Not sure if that would work for but the system works great here.

Where's your sheet set in relation to this DWG?

My sheet set is contained in the same folder where my .dwg’s reside.
