Mobile Laptop Workstation Specs Help

To summarize my desktop is a bit outdated, and my workplace has authorized me to look into an upgrade. Since my work has me participate in presentations and travel on occasion. I thought I should look at a mobile workstation as my "all in one" unit for in office work and travel.

We have a company account with Lenovo, and below are the PC & specs for what I am looking at. I mostly perform 2D Autocad but pretty intense 2D CAD at times. Sometimes a large campus, and sometimes a massive high-rise structure for laying out plansets for construction permitting. I just don't want to get a $3000+ laptop and have it bottlenecking and/or be bogged down during work. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Looks like the graphics card is certified at least for 2026 running on win11:

Hi,

This is a good setup for mid-level performance. The Intel CPU (255H) I usually recommend the 265H or 285H. The 255H has a low base speed which can make it run hot when trying to run AutoCAD. If you already purchased it, it would be ok - but if you haven't yet, you might want to see if you can get a higher performance base speed on the CPU to help not have to run the turbo so much.

Thank you for your feedback. I did look into the CPU a bit more and it was recommended for my setup to go with the 255HX Processor rather than the 255H. Partially for the reasons you suggested. I ended up reconfiguring and ordering the laptop under the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 platform with the following specs below to bulk it up more for longevity and better workflow. We felt the cost difference was well worth it with how many CAD files and Xref files I may have open at any given time on top of other software.

I can report back once I have started to use the laptop on some heavier CAD projects. I recently had a large one that was making my current desktop bottleneck pretty badly with how massive and unorganized the xref files were. So I'm excited to put the new laptop to work once it arrives.

Definitely, the HX versions of the Ultra cards help a lot with having better longevity. Sounds good. Let me know if you need any help on setup - the big thing is to be sure to use the Nvidia card through graphics setup in Windows and picking always use Nvidia under AutoCAD (and other big graphics users)
