Middle button pan in Autocad 2017

I wanted to get the middle button in AutoCAD 2017 to execute the PAN command.  Hold, move, release.  It defaults to the OSNAPS menu instead.  If I type MB and set it to 1, the middle button works fine.  Once I close and reopen AutoCAD, however, the default is back to OSNAPS.

I then tried to remap button 3 in the CUI to the PAN command.  This works, but I have to manually exit the PAN command to go back to my drawing.  The middle button pan method mentioned above keeps PAN active only as long as I'm pressing the middle button. 

How can I customize this permanently so that each reload of Autocad will keep mb 1 as the default rather than mb 0 (osnaps)?

One way is to make a ACADDOC.LSP and put this LSP file in your autocad support folder

It should be noted that MBUTTONPAN is not a drawing stored sysvar and therefore there is no reason it should be changing at startup (from 1 to 0) unless there is some startup code running that is changing it -or- it's never getting stored in the registry at application shutdown.

After you set it to 1, shutdown AutoCAD.

Windows Start>Run REGEDIT

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\Rxx.x\ACAD-xxxx:xxx\Profiles\ProfileName\Editor Configuration

Is there a object there named "MiddleButtonPan"? If so, does the value = 0

have you tried saving your workspace after you made the change?

If this option isnt available on the bottom of you screen you can click on the customize button at the bottom right and enable workspace switching

Are your scroll bars turned on?
If not mistaken, earlier versions of AutoCAD
required this item to be on in order for
mbuttonpan to work.

I have the same problem but I don't see any object named "MiddleButtonPan", it goes from "MainDictionary" to "MTextEditor" just as your capture says. What is that mean?

And one more thing, I already checked it up and the value of "MiddleButtonPan" is 1.

SYSVDLG and check whether MBUTTONPAN <1> is saved in the registry.
