maxactvp and publish performance and regen performance in general. Speed up publishing? And related questions....

Had this idea that maybe by setting maxactvp to a lower number (in this case zero) I could speed up my regen times and how quickly the sheets load for publishing. Doesn't appear to have any effenct on either of these issues.

Anyone have any insight?

Any other ways to speed up publishing a lot of sheets with a lot of viewports?

Already have plot in background turned off.

If I publish from selecting tabs vs plotting or batch plotting or sheet sets or whatever other options to pdf would there be any difference in performance or speed of plotting?

Wondering if there is some rhyme or reason as to the way autocad determines which active viewports to turn off once the threshold is reached? Does the last viewport selected that put the file over the threshold become a part of the currently active viewports? If so, which one below the threshold is taken out of the total number of allowable viewport to meet threshold requirements?

I'm dealing with a gazillion viewports for the total project but in a single session will work with limited viewports so thinking this could help with speeding up my regens etc.

Anyone?

Did some experimenting with publishing vs plotting vs sheetsets. All to PDF.

-If I publish by selecting all the layout tabs I want to plot (in this case only 2 tabs) the plot takes forevvvvvvver.

-If I publish just one tab not a hill of beans difference.

-This is the way that I'm accustomed to plotting my files for export and it has never been as painful as it is for this project..... but this is a very involved project.

-Note that I have been getting an adobe error message forever when i plot from tabs once the file is opened automatically. Error Message reads "There was an error OPENING this document. Access denied." I close the dialog and everything is fine with the plot. Therefor, thinking doubtful this has anything to do with my issues (especially since says "opening", but maybe. See below where I describe plotting to pdf from sheetsets.

-If I plot directly from the sheet the plot is almost instantaneous. But no way to plot multiple tabs this way.

-So, created a sheet set. If I select the same two sheets in the sheet set (contains all sheets that will ultimately need to be printed) the pdf is created MUCH quicker than if I publish from the tabs in the drawing (for identical sheets).

-Note that when I do this for whatever reason, I do NOT get the adobe error message described above.

-Tried batch plotting as well. Batch plotting seems like basically the same thing as publishing. Same results as publishing directly from the tabs.

-The curious thing is, if I'm understanding this correctly, is that all of the methods I'm describing above are basically publishing through different channels (excepting when I actually plot just one sheet from the layout tab).

So, seems to me that all results should create the pdfs in the same amount of time.

Anyone have any insight? Would really prefer to publish from layout tabs.

I too am having the desire to open sheets faster and publishing faster, and still trialing a combination of things. In my case, I am using a 3D model (CADWorx piping model) and had been using section cuts of the model. problem is when you take 3+ section cuts of a pretty large piping model, the dwg ends up taking up to 5 min to open. if you have 1 section cut, it takes considerably less, but still undesirably long. I have toyed around with maxactvp before but if you need to work on the dwg, its kindof annoying to have to keep toggling up or down to getyour viewports to load. that and it doesnt seem  to improve plotting from what i can tell. also seems to have little effect on opening the dwg. maybe if i had allot more viewports it would improve, i dont know.

moral of the story, ACAD is extremely frustrating when it comes to 3D models. i can personally function in the model itself, and design just fine, but when trying to cut view ports for production drafting, the wheels fall off. I KNOW THERE IS A BETTER AND FATER WAY! HOW IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING SUCCESS WITH THIS? OR IS THE ANSWER REALLY "YOUR MODEL IS ACTUALLY PRETTY LARGE, ACAD IS ACTUALLY DOING A REAL GOOD JOB WITH IT" WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BEFORE.

getting real curious if Bricscad is any better in respect to these types of things. i know Hexagon will try and sell you their whole suite as the "best solution"....but that too, i need to find time to dig in and figure out. been leaving too much money on the table "waiting on ACAD" because i am missing the magical workflow that works.

Grab trial versions and start testing with your own content and workflows: I suspect you'll need to move modern created-from-scratch for 3D CAD solution ultimately.

I actually have a full seat available to me already that comes with the CADWorx package work purchased. I had toyed around several years ago and it was very interesting. I really liked it, but left allot to be desired as deal breakers, and allot of promises they were developing BricsCAD more. I have been meaning to circle back to give it another go, but I have been kept near 100% utilized and billable, what free time I do have on the clock, is best spent on other things. My "to-do when I have time" list is too long 😕 maybe this is the fire I needed to warm back up to BricsCAD. Afterall, it's a fraction of the cost.
