Material preview generator has stopped working

I am having an ongoing problem that is more of anoyance than a hinderence, I have googled it but found nothing.  It happens on occasion while I am working but more often than not while changing between drawings. ( I tend to have 2-6 drawings open at a time) I do both 2D and 3D drawings.  I get the pop up  "Autodesk Material Preview Generator has stopped working- Search for a solution or close the program"  searching returns nothing, so I close the program.  10 -15 min later  same thing. (how is it crashing again if i just closed the program?) Some times I can go days in between crashes. It doesnt affect the ability to view materials I have applied to 3D objects in realistic view.  Autocad 2017, Win 7 Pro, 24gb ram, 8 cores, 8 gb video card, AC is on a 240gb SSD drive ,1 TB HD on computer, drawings are stored on server.   So I dont believe its a hardware issue.    Any thoughts?

Is this a sudden new problem?
Or is it limited to certain files you have open?

Its not realatively new has happpened for maybe 8-10 months  seems more frequent lately.  Not sure if it is exclusive to 2017 or started before I upgraded.

Its not a certain drawing(s) that seems to be the culprit. Since a whole different group of drawings could be open every time it happens.  It could be going from one open 2D drawing to another 2D or from a 3D to a 2D  no real rhyme or reason to when it happens.

Hi @david4528H,

This is a new one on me and I don't see any information in the AKN regarding this error message.

Can you give me more detail on what you have open / running when this occurs? For instance is the Material Browser open at the time? Are you editing a material in the Editor? Is there a specific Visualization Style being applied?

Have you applied the Service Pack and Updates to your AutoCAD?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

It just did it again.  Below are the details from the error pop up. Autocad is fully up to date.   I am in 2D wire visualization.   Right now I do have  the material browser open.  It has done it when not open.  I have 6 drawings open presently.  1 of which is a 3D,  Other programs i have running are Adobe Reader, outlook, excel, server file folders, IE and firefox, VLC media player. MS photo viewer. As I mentioned in my first post given the MB I have and memory I highly doubt its a memory issue.   As far as i can remember its not occurred while editing a material or in another visual style than 2D wire.

Hi @david4528H,

Can you tell me which graphics card you are using and the driver you have installed?  Any issues I see that seem possibly related have to do with hardware acceleration. I would like to see if your Graphics card is on the certified list (and therefore which driver) or to see if there is a more current driver that might behave better.
