Back in ancient times before the wheel was invented (probably modeled in Acad by Dean....), I had this happen a lot with drawings that were imported from "another cad system" which will remain nameless (MS)... it took us weeks to figure out what was going on because using all of the tricks mentioned here... NOTHING was found in the outer regions of space. On a whim, it turned on QTEXT, and a veritable star field of dots appeared all around the drawing. Selecting one and using LIST I determined that they were text entities, with no actual text in them. Artifacts of the translation to DXF, I assumed. Thousands of them. Deleting all of them, and turning QTEXT back to 0, the drawing zoomed perfectly to extents.
May not help here, but I just love to tell that story.... have a good day all!
