I have a 3.85MB .dwg that feels like it should be opening a lot faster than it is. I don't believe it is a network issue because it actually opens faster when it is on the network.

Here is everything that was done so far.

So what is the "network"?
What changed with it and/or your PC recently?
Is the problem only this one file?

Sorry, I just meant when I open it from a network drive as opposed to a local drive.

Nothing has changed in the PC hardware/software.

It happens with other files as well.

In the technical world, "feeling" something should work a certain way hold no weight. 3.58M is very large and I would expect it to be slow.

You need to determine if this is a file problem or a system problem.

Does this happen with other files of similar size?

What steps have you taken to clean up the file?

What measures have you taken to verify that the file size is not due to extraneous information in the file?

Since you cannot share the file, can you describe it for us?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

I was able to test opening the file in AutoCad 2013. The file opened in 2.38 seconds as opposed to opening in 21.26 seconds in AutoCad 2016.

Hi,

That sounds like either the AutoCAD profile has some incorrect settings or the drawing misses some files or settings in 2016 which are ok in 2013.

So compare support paths, printer paths, make sure that all PC3 open fine without error or warning messages, ..., verify that the drawing format is set to DWG 2013 and not to an old format. Also verify that no XRef's or other referenced files (images, fonts, ...) are used in that file.

Try the same with a new Windows user having admin permissions and disabled antivirus. The new user is needed to make sure the AutoCAD profile is clean (hopefully the profiles are not migrated or the admin(s) had not copied them for new users.

[EDIT] run command _OPTIONS ==> tab "Open and Save" and verify these settings too [/EDIT]

I found the following while searching for CIV3D file degradation issues.  Replacing the "AeccNetwork.dbx" file as shown fixed our slow AutoCAD loading issues.....unfortunately didn't help the CIV3D file loading.  Important that you use the next version DBX file to replace your installed version (eg. use the 2017 dbx to replace the dbx file from your 2016 AutoCAD install)
