Lockup when 3d rotating

Hi All,

I have tried looking for a place to Bug Report this but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to do that. I can make a suggestion about a new feature but not report a bug. Any suggestions?

I am trying to do some simple manipulation of my drawings using the change view cube in the top right corner of the screen. Most of the time it works fine but sometimes it just locks up and the only way I can get out is to kill AutoCAD 2022 with the Task Manager in Windows 10.

This seemed to be a problem with the 2015/16 versions, as per previous Forum posts, so I upgraded to 2022 and it is happening more frequently.

The screen cursor starts as the normal RGB line style cursor in realistic view, I click on the cube to change view, the cursor changes to the pointer with the small cube next to it and then I can move the cursor but everything else is locked up. I cannot select any part of the drawing, any menu or Ribbon commands, and the command line is not available.

At present I am working on a problem involving shapes with complex 3d angles. It is at the conceptual stage so my drawings are all simple wireframe to get the angles correct. I typically have another drawing open I use to refer to and switch back. This behaviour with lockup can occur anytime I change the view and it doesn't seem to matter how many drawings I have open or how long it has been since I saved or started.

I do save frequently, but not THAT frequently. Sometimes I can save and this is the next thing that happens. Sometimes I save and work for a while and then it happens. It is definitely a Bug - how else do I report it?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Cheers

Andrew

Read >>this thread<<, you will find some hints.

About your main problem: I guess it is a graphic issue, but without knowing anything about your graphic card, your graphic driver and other information about your hardware  ...

Hi,

please show us one of your drawings where this happens, also create 2 screenshots, one from command _ABOUT and from command _GRAPHICSCONFIG.

Hi All,

Attached are a few screenshots.

The About Command only tells me:

Product Version S.113.0.0 AutoCAD 2022.1

It is a Kosher Student Version.

The shape is a primitive version of a bracket I need to design with very specific angles. The only config options I have changed are the Units command with Angles to 3 decimal places and lengths to 2 decimal places.

The bracket will (if it works) be used to construct an Icosahedron shape. The Strut lengths and angles are critical and I will be using 3dalign to put it together. The only way to do this quickly is by changing the Views.

I have also attached the Task Manager screenshot. Something is happening as it changes the Memory and CPU usage but it does not recover. It stays in a "Race" condition. It is definitely AutoCAD as everything is locked on AutoCAD but I can move the cursor. While within AutoCAD the Cursor is the Arrow with a small cube. If I click outside of AutoCAD I can launch Task Manager and other Apps.

To say this is a frustrating problem is an understatement. I have to eventually MANUALLY place 92 of these connectors and 270 struts in the full version and so lockups cause lots of problems.

The Graphics Settings are as per NVidia Optimised Settings.

Windows 10, NVidia and AutoCAD are all the latest versions. This was happening prior to the last update of all of them.

Cheers

Hi,

thank you for your screenshots, looks well (even if I would not install the latest graphic card driver by default 😉 ).

You can try:

  • start command GFXDX12 and change it's value (if it's 1, change it to 0 or if it's 0 change it to 1)
  • next try (as you geometry is not that complex) turn of hardware acceleration (command _GRAPHICSCONFIG)

...better?

If not then please show us one of the drawing you are struggling with.

Hi

The drawing I am doing right now hasn't locked up yet (touch wood). I will try these two things if/when it does.

It has happened with a number of different drawings lately. The only other setting I change I can think of is x-ray view as I need to align components into each other.

I will let you know.

Cheers
