Location of Render Window Temp files

I thought that the Temporary Render files in the render window persist between/after sessions, but maybe I am wrong?

I am wondering where the Temporary files are on the system?
I closed autocad before saving them - so I figured I'd go get them - they do not show up in the render window history.

I have looked in the options dialog box

I have looked in the Temp folders

I have done a search of the full C: drive for *.png for all files saved today

I have, of course, done multiple searches online.

I found one reference to a file location based on Autocad 2007, but I think it related to Windows 7 file locations, not windows 10 (or current Autocad behavior).

Are the files lost/deleted/purged when the autocad session closes?
Are they not actually saved to disk when created?

May I ask what you mean by "temporary render files"?
Either you render to file (then it's saved) or to render window or to viewport ... the last two do not create files.

What is the real problem: what happened that triggered this search of yours, what happened? What did you lose?

While I take your points about the oxymoronic nature of my question, I thought that the files were saved locally in a Temporary location.**

Yes I am talking about the render window:

If they are not saved to a temp location, and I were to render lots and lots of versions, are those versions being saved in memory only?
The other day I ran 15 or 20 different quick 1 minute renders to check design changes.
I forgot to save out the ones I wanted and thought they were saved in a temp folder.
Not only that - during the process, one of the drawings crashed autocad - so that means the files would have been lost regardless.
If that really is the answer, I'm surprised.
I even did a search while the render window was open and it did not return anything.
I'll have to watch memory usage as I render images to see if it keeps going up.

**Autocad, along with many other programs, do save the list of commands in a temp file that does not get deleted, so my query is not that far fetched. Not to mention that windows itself has several "Temp" file folders.

I am fully aware of the ins-and-outs of windows and hidden folders. I write custom macros for both Autocad & Excel among other things.

A tip from a more frequent user and contributor to these forums than you: f you wish to exhibit your computer prowess feel free to be more exact/precise with your descriptions beyond the general statement you kindly reposted. You'd be amazed how any folks claim to have "looked" but missed where.

Hi,

thank you for the details, the best I can find is this file which is created when render to window:

Filename ATIL*.tmp

...but I have not found a way to open/display the content as image.

I did some renders yesterday and did not find any temp files with the same time at all.
I'm not sure the above file is related to renders.

At this point, I'm assuming they are not saved to disk in any format.
