Linked Excel files causing crash in Autocad 2015

My company recently upgraded to Autocad 2015 along with Office 2013. I am having an issue with linked Excel files causing a Fatal Crash in Autocad when opening the drawing where they are linked.  We still save our Excel files as .xls.  When opening a drawing with the linked files, a download box will pop up showing the files loading into the drawing.

Would saving the Excel files as .xlsx files solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think the file format of the Excel files will make a difference.

Are there a lot of linked excel files in this drawing?

Have you tried datalink excel data in an autocad table?

Yes there are around 12 Excel files in the drawing on 2 separate tabs.

I have not tried data linking as I am not as familiar with it yet.

Does the file just crash on your computer?

Have you tried on another computer?

If you can, post the files and someone can check.

I'm having this problem too. We have several linked spreadsheets in our .dwg files. In the last month or so, whenever I try to open one of the .dwg files with a linked spreadsheet, AutoCAD locks up and the only way to get out is CTRL-ALT-DEL. My husband can open these files without issue on his computer. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

I think I have solved the problem temporarily with a project I am currently working on with the same issue. It has several pages of linked excel files.  The way I solved the issue is to open all of the linked excel files in excel, then open the dwg file.  This way, it is easy for autocad to read the files instead of having to locate and read them to open the dwg file.

My company laptop only has 8G memory and cannot handle the excess, however, the files will open on a computer with more memory.  This is my workaround.

Hope this helps.
