Linework Display order

I'm having issues with tracing linework over imported aerial imagery. I have inserted raster (JPG) images and used DRAWORDER to send the images to the back and have set the transparency of the images to 5%. However every time I trace or edit new linework (lines or polylines) the lines disappear behind the raster images. Regen doesn't help. The only quick fix is to alter the transparancy value of imagery after each edit which is time consuming and cumbersome.

 

I'm using AutoCAD 2024.

 

Any ideas?

Do you have the latest 2024 updates installed?

Type ABOUT command, do a screenshot & post that here.

Also any difference if you were to enter GFXDX12 and set this to 0, restart AutoCAD?

Then type GRAPHICSCONFIG command, do a screenshot & post that here also.

Hi,

  • Ensure that your linework is on a separate layer from the raster image, and that the linework layer is not set to the same or a lower drawing order than the image layer.
  • Make sure that you're working near 0,0,0.
  • Try to Lock image layer and see if any changes.
  • Consider using external references (XREF) for your raster images. Sometimes, managing raster data as an XREF instead of inserting it directly into the drawing can resolve display issues.
  • There can sometimes be issues with display drivers or rendering settings in AutoCAD. Ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date, and try toggling the hardware acceleration settings in AutoCAD (found under OPTIONS > SYSTEM > Graphics Performance ). Sometimes, disabling hardware acceleration can resolve these kinds of display problems.
  • Sometimes, the issue may be related to the scale or zoom level you’re working at. Try zooming in or out and see if the linework behaves differently. Also, changing the display resolution might help.

Are you sure REGENALL command will not fix your temporary display-only issue?
Can you PLOT and get the results you need?

 

Have you installed the 2024.1.6 Update yet? ABOUT command in your AutoCAD will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards please.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero): a restart of your AutoCAD2024 is required for it to take effect.

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables: if still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, your PC's video card is not up to the program's needs most likely.
