lineweight via plot style vs layer

As I prepare to convert one of my drawings from ctb (color) to stb (named) plot style, it occurred to me to ask about forgoing plot styles all together in favor of specifying lineweights via the layer properties panel. Is screening an option that can be set without plot styles?

Look up LWEIGHT command in HELP in AutoCAD (and that LINEWEIGHT column in LAYER command), then test and explore to see if that works for you.

There literally is no right or wrong way, or a single way, to do this in AutoCAD: user choice.
