Linetypes did not transfet well fron autocad 2014 to Autocad 2017

Hey,

I was using linetypes on autocad 2014 for my top of banks and bottom banks.  But when i installed 2017 , the linetype exists but not as they should.

Probably missing the shape files used in the linetype definitions.
Are you getting a prompt or warning when you open a drawing that contains these linetypes?

I actually figured out a way to create a new linetype and it works but i have a hard time loading to another drawing....the .lin a shape file are on my desktop. Where should i put it for it to work with all my drawings

The .lin file does not matter.
The .shx file needs to live in a place that AutoCAD can find it, so do this:
* Make a new folder like C:\CADSTUFF. Put the .shx file in there
* Go to OPTIONS in AutoCAD, under the Support File Search Path, add the path to C:\CADSTUFF. Move this path to the TOP of the list.
* You can put the .lin file there too if you want.

Now shut down AutoCAD and restart it.
Your linetypes should be okay now.

Hi,

in case of a missing SHX you should get a warning at the moment you load a drawing and AutoCAD can't find the SHX file (as long as you didn't block that message).

Another trial is to disable the hardware acceleration, as now (with AutoCAD 2017) the gc is responsible for showing the line-type ... and there were some cases were that failed (command _GRAPHICSCONFIG).

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I see that you have figured out how to create some linetypes.  Your old ones will still likely work if you have all the components available in the linetype definition. If you would like to attach your .LIN file(s) i am happy to take a peek.

With your newly created .LIN file(s), I suggest keeping your custom work in a folder outside of where AutoCAD installs things. Perhaps a location such as c:\CustomAcad would work?  Once you have created this folder and placed your files in it then all you have to do is go into Options>File tab and add this location to your File Support Search Path.

Thanx for the answer. I am going to try and fix my linetype problems...My pc was formated and i forgot to keep the stuff thats in Autocad and my I.T. guy doesnt give me autorisation to put stuff in my program file...
