Lines disappear under pdf underlay

I am on Autocad 2020. I xref'd in a pdf file on one layer and I am tracing over that pdf with lines on another layer. Randomly, when I create a line, the line will disappear underneath the pdf. I have tried the draw order command and it will work temporarily but eventually my lines begin to disappear again underneath the pdf. Any help is appreciated.

I was trying to replicate the issue so that I can try to figure out a solution but was having no luck. With that said, are you familiar with the PDF import tool? It will allow you to import a PDF and convert objects to AutoCAD objects, which may save you some time tracing. It is located at Ribbon: Insert > Import > PDF Import you can also type PDFIMPORT at the command line.

While playing around, I came up with a couple of possible work arounds. I am assuming that your issue is that you cannot see which lines you have already traced. You can go in to the Layers Properties Manager and adjust the transparency of the layer in which the PDF was attached. I took mine to 80, and lines that are under the PDF show up just fine. You could also trace with a layer with a larger lineweight to help keep track.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this! I tried the PDF import command and I think that will save me a good bit of time. I will have to make some changes to the autocad dwg because it is not perfect but it will still save me a lot of time. Thanks! I tried the transparency soluttion too and it works as well but I will go with the pdfimport haha. Appreciate it a lot.
