Left window selection not working properly

Anonymous
Not applicable

Dear All,

Good Morning !

I have started experiencing a new problem in past 3-4 days.

By left window selection i should not be able to select a block until the window covers it on all side.

but now if I zoom in I am able to select the block if only component of it is visible on the screen.

For example : lets say I made a block with 20 columns placed at 3m from each other.

now if i zoom onto a single column I am able to select it with left window selection.

Please help - I have deleted some important blocks already from drawings unknowingly.

I think that has always been the case -- if all parts of an object that are within the visible screen area are included in a left-to-right [non-Crossing] selection Window, the object is selected even if there is more of it outside the visible screen area that is not within the Window.  I don't know of any way around that.  I have sometimes liked the fact that it works that way, but more often not, so if anyone knows of a way to avoid it, especially if there's any way to choose which way it works for a given selection, I'd also be interested.

@Kent1Cooper  I believe the OP is experiencing a different issue where Window Selection (left to right) is improperly selecting blocks that are not fully visible on screen, and therefore also not fully windowed.  I can reproduce the improper behavior, but only while in a 3D Visual Style.

Just wanted to add that the behavior shown above in the animation is different than the behavior described HERE in that a a left to right Window Selection selects the entire block even without windowing all visible portions of the block.

Hello,

I have the same left window selection problem. (When a part of the block is visible in the screen, it selects the blocks I dont want. Even if the block is not completely in the selection window.) Maybe it is there is a selection mode variable etc, but I could not find any until now.

I realize that this post is from 2014. So, since the date of the post is 2014, I thought maybe someone already found a solution for this problem?  I will be glad, if you help about it.

That's how the program works since decades, standard, normal.

Windows selection select all objects if all visible parts on screen are inside your window.

The block is not completely inside of the window indeed but it still selects the block. I am not sure, it is standard. Even if it is standard, it is not a right solution because it causes mistakes. I dont want to select the block by left window but I want to select the other parts.

If that is the standard (I am still not completely sure), it would be better if Autocad did not select the block from the left unless it is completely in window (even if the a part or some part of the block in visible screen is completely inside of the window). Or at least it would be better to give options about it.

I know, the block, xref or dashed line for example, is not completely on screen,

but all parts which are on screen are inside your window selection..

That is how Acad object selection window or polygon works.

It is standard.

I am with you, it would be better if not.. (thats why I lock xref insertion layers).

But we USERS can't change this.

I understand. Thank you for your response and explanation.

Autocad surpsized me about this issue. Usually it is the most user-friendly program to me. Maybe they will change it in future. To me, it is definitely needed.

Then it seems there is not any solution except  locking the related layers as you say (Even if it is not a very efficient to lock and unlock the layers just becaue of this. Anyway, thanks again.
