LDD Wont launch without Local Admin on Windows 7 64bit Enterprise

Hello All,

We are having issues launching Autocad 2006 LDD on our network. Without admin privilidges the software will not launch at all. We tried running a process monitor to see if certain places on the local disk/registry/network did not have sufficient privilidges (as we have done for multiple other softwares) but were given no instances of access being denied. LDD will how ever launch if the users have local admin privlidges. We have tried to create a local admin account that would launch from the LDD exe (launching only LDD as an admin, and nothing else) but have had no luck with this either.

Does anyone have any ideas or have similar issue with a older version of autocat on Windows 7 ? Does this have something to do with certain windows updates? I know Virtual XP will not launch with out admin privilidges or the removal of certain windows updates (which we have done before) that allow it to launch as a regular user.

If anyone has any tips or ideas it would be much appreciated.

AutoCAD 2006 doesn't support Windows 7. You need at least AutoCAD 2010 for Windows 7, that's the minimum limit. Security protocols are outdated.

I recommend at least AutoCAD 2013 though. Here is the source of proof from AutoDESK themself:

Thank you for your response. We were aware that autocad 2006 was not supported in windows 7,  but curious if there was any known work around to have LDD launch without local admin privlidges (we do have the newest versions of autocad but are forced to use 2006 for specific projects).

Hello @Anonymous,

Companies setup specific launch privileges for legal reason sometimes. I would have to consult with Autodesk to review legal terms before providing the file(s) and tasks to you. I don't count on any issues regarding (6+ year) older versions of products, but I don't want to make assumptions ether. I'll stay in touch with you and keep you informed.

In supported Operating Systems, the user must launch/run AutoCAD once as full admin, they can then be dropped down afterwards. Repeat if they move to other PCs.

If you are running 2006 is some sort of Win7 Compatibility Mode, that "mode" requires admin rights to work I believe. Otherwise what I wrote above is how we all do it.

@pendean So many people are having problems with this because there's a big jump between Windows XP and Windows 7.

It's the only way Autodesk can signature usernames with product copies, but at the same time annoying whenever you upgrade your OS.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, running once as administrator does not seem to resolve the issue, once reverted back to domain user the product will not launch.
