Layer walk not correctly isolating layers

Just started using the new AutoCAD 2021 and I have found that Layer walk (laywalk) is not correctly isolating layers depending on the highlighted selection.

I have tried this multiple drawings and found that it is not drawing dependant and if I use an older version of AutoCAD it works correctly.

OS: Win10

Or did I misunderstand your problem?

Or you don't deselect the "Restore on exit" button?

Why don't you resolve this issue (not dismiss, not just cloes the pop-up) that appears in all of your screenshots first, then see if your problem goes away. Or turn that feature off altogether if you have no need to use it.

I can see it works from your screen record and with only a few layers and objects. It also works for me with only a few objects and layers, but once you have a dozen or two layers and a few hundred wires it no longer displays the highlighted layer correctly.

So instead of just getting what you saw on layer 1, imagine you also get some of the objects on layer 2, layer 3... displaying also and even some from layer 1 not appearing.

Hi pendean,

That bubble notification was me trying different layer settings in the options to see if it resolves the issue.

That was from turning on 'Evaluate all new layers'.

Above you wrote "I have tried this multiple drawings and found that it is not drawing dependant ". But now we read it IS drawing dependant.

Let us see such a drawing (upload the dwg) so we can try to reproduce the complained behavior. (I tried with 25 Layers and 400 objects on each of them - no problem to see).

Start your program in /safemode  (this is for testing ONLY)

or start ACADE "as ACAD"

Perhaps it is an acadE problem. Share the file and we can check it on our side.

I can't read about file depending issue, you can test few layers and a mass layers in one file.

Thank you for help.

I tried the /safemode and it didn't work.

Though I found a way to to fix it by

1. Installing video card drivers (441.12-quadro, dated 30/10/19)
2. Setting the Graphic performances to basic mode
3. After entering layer walk selecting another layer and then back to the first layer I wanted to start with

Seems more like a bug, but this work around is good enough.

I too have this problem. Works ok with one viewport, but if i have two viewports at a different scale it goes haywire.

The only solution I found was turning down the graphics settings to almost minimum.
That doesn't fully resolve the issue, but provides a good enough work around by then selecting a few other layers and then back to the first to fully clear the erroneous parts.

If I have multiple view ports on a paper space layout then using laywalk has issues.

If I double-click into one viewport first, then laywalk seems to work fine in that viewport.

This isn't a bad work around for inspecting things inside viewports; however, it basically means that I can't use the laywalk command to reliably inspect all of the layers on the paper space layout itself (things not in viewports), unless the viewports are temporarily deleted (down to a max of 1 viewport in the layout), which is a bit of a pain.

It's too bad.  This was a very fast and useful tool for inspecting layers back in the LT 2014 version that I came from.  I guess it can still work, but definitely not as fast anymore....
