Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I have attached a file for layers with descriptions to conform to the AIA layering standard. Unless things have changed, there is no standard for colors. I don't know if I still have a ctb file that matches the colors in this file but I will take a look for it and add it to a post if I can find it.

Thanks John.

The problem I'm having is getting prints to plot correctly with a coordinated layer standard and ctb file.  I've have plenty of experience with AutoCad but have never edited an existing ctb file.  Previous employers typically had "standards" in place.  Current employer allows each CAD user to do their own thing with very limited "standards" in place.

Are you aware of any links to tutorials on editing or creating new ctb files?

Do you know if the typical AIA ctb files will work with file you provided?

Employer recently purchased AutoCAD Architecture 2017 for me and it appears to have Several AIA ctb files as standard.

I appreciate any help.

HI @Anonymous,

It has been a long time since I worked with that file but I believe that the attached CTB file should work with it.

If you double-click the file, it should open in the Plot Style editor. I like to use the form view tab to edit the settings.

The first thing I did was to select all the colors in the left hand window and then assign them to Black in the properties Window. I also select Screening of 100%.

The next step is to now create exceptions to these settings. For instance, pen 15 I like to use Color 252.

You can then select each individual color on the left and assign them a standard lineweight on the right in Properties.

I believe that this CTB file uses 4 different line weights.

Dear John,

Thank you for posting the an answer, a standard file and a CTB file. Like many people I see you responding to I also had a meltdown and lost some work, but ALL my CTB files and nothing would print at all; Yes even after accessing my back up drives etc. - it was a calamitous meltdown, Pompei style.  Last resort, the only place I found even a basic file to work with was from the National Park Service Graphic Standards for drawing submitals on their RFPs.  I will of course use any files here acquired to rebuild and customize my own, but in the face of desperation - THANK YOU for a reasonable and generous response.

It's a particular nightmare all of us have faced at one time or another and knowing that I am astonished at the amount of venom and hostility I saw on this knowledge network. I don't use this service often and I'm not an advanced ACAD wizard. My day-to-day usage in an independent (but thriving) practice is still pretty moderate after 20 years, but my questions and needs, and those of my clients are just a valid as everyone else's. I can't believe the level of unprofessional sass in some of the responses. Those other rude respondents serve no purpose on a sharing network for those of us asking for legit help. When I did work for a large corporate firm behavior like that would have been dealt a swift reprimand.

What?!

No hostility here at all.
