Layer only appears in Print Preview

I have a layer that is only seen in Print Preview. It also appears when plotted out. It is the outline of a building on a floor plan that I got from an architect. I can't even identify the layer as it only appears in Print Preview. Any suggestions?

Show us the file, or call the architect and you two discuss it all.

Hi @t.sutherland.design,

This sounds a bit strange. Can you attach a sample file where this happens or email it to me if it needs to be private? I am happy to take a look for you.

Do you have layer 0 or defpoints frozen or turned off? Things like this seem to happen when these layers are frozen and sometimes when turned off.

If these layers are frozen or turned off, find out which objects are on them, give them their own layer and leave 0 and defpoints layer states visible.

Attached is the drawing at discussion. Please note that I'm using AutoCAD 2016 with HydraCAD integrated software for fire protection. This is also the drawing that is the topic of another discussion regarding a 5-minute latency from regeneration while switching between Paper Space and Model Space.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post a screenshot of these extra items or explain how we can identify them in your very busy layout.

PS: there is no perceived lag in your file, but I'm not running your add-on either. Unload it and see if your problem goes away.

See attached screen shot. It is the purple dashed polyline. And there is a green dashed polyline below it also. The red dash dot polyline is intended.

As for the regeneration delay, it seems to be linked to the viewports in Paper Space. If I hold escape for a few seconds I find that I can cancel out of the regeneration. So, I'm getting by with the drawing but it's difficult to navigate.

Hi @t.sutherland.design,

I opened your file in AutoCAD 2015 and don't see those lines in my print preview (I don't think- busy file).

If you try to do this same process with HydraCAD uninstalled do you get the same issue? Or perhaps run an exporttoautocad to create a new test file without the proxies and then test.

I can verify the lines you are referring to and the lag from switching from paper space to model space. Going to look into it and see if there is anything I can find that can fix it. Fingers crossed.

I do not have HydraCAD, so that does not seem to be the issue.

The culprits are lines that are on a locked layer "A_Guides". Both green and magenta lines have colors not set to ByLayer. The green has a color of 0,255,0 and the magenta is 255,0,255.

As for the lag, I was able to remedy it by starting a new drawing and using INSERT to insert the old drawing into the new one. Once it was in I made sure it was exploded, then purged the drawing. To bring in the layout, I found the drawing through the design center and added the old drawings layout into the new drawing. After the insert and importing the layout, I essentially have an identical drawing without the lag.

The unwanted green and magenta lines were simply polylines with a very thick lineweight. The "show lineweight" setting was off on while "plot object lineweights" setting was on in the Page Setup Manager, hence the lines were appearing very think in the plot.
