q1 before I click on the text box

q2 after I click on the text box

wysiwyg is a nice workaround.

but, with wysiwyg turned off, can someone explain what setting determines how big the text is expanded while editing?  The problem is that sometimes  one word fills the screen, and sometimes a paragraph fills the screen.  thanks!

i have observed that the inconsistency of text expansion occurs when the "text height" property is different from the text formatting font size.   seems these should be one and the same but they're not.  when they are the same the text expansion results in a consistent expansion font size.  when they are different the text expansion uses the property "text height" to determine this expansion multiplier.

So in my case, two texts look identical - they have the same text editor font size, but one has "property - text height" of 0.1 and the second has a "property - text height" of 0.2 --  although they appear the same in model space and plot the same, their "property - text heights" are different ..     Then when double-clicking on the text to edit it, Autocad thinks that a larger multiplier is needed for the text with the 0.1 "property text height" and expands it twice as much as when double-clicking on the text with 0.2 "property text height"

I believe this issue arises when you have annotative text and the annotative scale of your text is different than the annotative scale of your drawing. If you edit the annotative scale of the text in properties to match that of the drawing/current view (lower right hand corner, carrot to adjust) or vice versa, you should be good to go.
