Isometric Piping

Hey everyone I'm new to the Autocad community. I was tasked with creating Isometric Pipe drawings with the new AutoCad 2017. My question is that how do I insert pipe symbols such as valves, welds, flanges etc. is there a file or add on I have to download?

Hi and Welcome to AutoDesk Forum,

you can use some existing samples by Ctrl+3 shortcut.and if you have your own library you can use INSERT  command to bring what you need and you can also use copyclip Ctrl+c  and Ctrl+v to copy from file to another.

For simply inserting blocks as @imadHabash insert works great. 

I would check to see if your company has a standard that they use (or are supposed to use). If they do they likely have blocks for the associated standard. 

If you are starting this from ground up you should look into creating templates which will have everything in you drawing ready to go. This example is for electrical but the ideas are the same. I find it useful when dealing with ISO to make sure i have the polar tracking set to 30. 

If you are having to create the pipe symbols i might start by downloading something like this : http://www.cadforum.cz/catalog_en/block.asp?blk=3932 and create blocks out of those pieces. (or simple copy and paste, but id recommend creating blocks)

I would draw those in 3D rather than iso.  In 3D all existing symbols work without any modification, dimensioning is easier, if you need to show the pipe from a different angle it is very easy to do.  In an Iso, if a different viewing angle is needed you must redraw from scratch.

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I too suggest that you do this work in true 3D. It is easy to show an Isometric representation once you have things modeled but it becomes even easier to change views if it is drawn in 3D. As far as INSERT goes, there are many ways to do this:

• Drag-and-drop
• Insert
• -Insert
• DesignCenter
