Isometric Drafting button didn't actually activate ISODRAFT mode

Hi,

New to AutoCAD, following a LinkedInLearning course. For some reason, adding the Isometric Drafting button to my status bar from the customization flyout didn't actually turn ISODRAFT mode on. I had access to the Left/Top/Right ISOplane flyout/setting, had Iso snapping turned on, had every setting matching the video I followed, but the snapping wasn't working. After a couple hours I figured out I had to type ISODRAFT and hit enter to actually activate the mode I already had turned on and seemingly had full access to, and had no indication why it wasn't responding correctly. Not sure if this is a glitch or if I was missing something, but putting this here to save someone else several hours of googling for an answer. I saw in the comments of the course that others had the same issue. Is this something that's standard for how AutoCAD works, or is it a fluke? The video I'm watching didn't mention anything about having to type it in, and it looked like turning it on in the Customization tab was all they had to do.

not sure what video link you're referring to but here's Autodesk method of turning that on:

Isometric Drawings & Drafting in AutoCAD | AutoCAD Blog (autodesk.com)

Of course you would still have to enable the ISODRAFT button to show up on the status bar first.

But after it's there, then it's a matter of toggling it on/off & selecting the down arrow & selecting Iso Left/Top/Right

Yep, I had it turned on there where you circled it, and had it available on the status bar at the bottom and it still wasn't working when it was toggled on. The video is the Isometric drafting (ISODRAFT) video in the LinkedInLearning AutoCAD 2024 Essential Training course, the instructor just used the things you circled there.

It sounds like you were expecting that picking that icon in the Customization fly-up list turns on isometric drafting.  Having the icon in the status bar does not turn that mode on; it only lets you control that mode and its options from the status bar instead of the keyboard.  The Customization fly-up menu item for it controls only whether or not that icon appears in the status bar; it does not determine the setting of what that icon controls -- the icon itself is for that.  You don't need to type anything in.  You can just pick on that icon in the status bar if you want the "which-face" option that it's showing, or you can pull down the little arrow beside it to change which face [which will also turn it on if it's off; and Ctrl+E also cycles through the which-face options, without affecting whether or not it's on].  Note that [as with all status bar icons] it "lights up" when it's on; turning it off [also just by picking it] turns its light off, but does not remove it from the status bar.

Yes, I'm aware of all that. I had the icon selected (lit up) in the status
bar and had the which face option activated. It still wasn't working. I
tried switching everything on and off several times to see if it would
help. It didn't work until I typed in ISODRAFT, even with the icon in the
status bar selected and the which face cursor activated. I haven't had this
issue with any other icon in the status bar, just this one.

The same happens to me. I have 5 different files open. Al of them were working fine. But suddenly in one of the files iso stop working. The icon at the bottom is light, but the cursor is left-right, top-bottom. All other open drawings iso is working fine.

Now that sounds like the AutoCAD program crashed so closing AutoCAD, restarting & opening that dwg again to see if that fixes the problem
