Hi @asherjoh,
If you you are asking if the isolateobjects command will let you control only objects in one viewport without affecting others then the answer is no. You can use VPLAYER to control layer visibility or even control layers using the layer properties manager. This will obviously not affect the layers in other viewports or in modelspace. Is this what you are trying to do?

What I am doing is creating details in paper space for some construction drawings. I cant vp freeze the layers because it would end up freezing the desired objects. The only other way I can do this is by copying the objects and dragging away from the main drawing. If autocad can freeze layers in a single view port, I don't know why it cant isolate objects in a single view port.
Hi @asherjoh,
Isolating objects by turning off layers is a global function. That is why the VP commands exist.
is it possible to share a sample drawing so I can see if there might be a better process?

I am wanting to isolate the duct and steel in the cloud only. I don't want the remaining duct, steel or xref's to show. The problem with freezing the layers is it will also freeze the steel and duct objects that I need to remain. Thank You
don't freeze the layer, use LAYOFF > Settings > Viewports > VPfreeze. Then select the layers you wish to be frozen ONLY in that viewport.
Or
In the layer manager palette look for th column VPFreeze (NOT Freeze) and click on the viewport with the sun in it to set it to freeze in that viewport.
PAPERSPACE is a viewport, so if you are in paperspace but NOT inside a viewport you can use the above to freeze selected layers ONLY in the PS viewport.
You could create additional viewports and freeze objects in just that VP.

If something I wrote can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, I meant the other one.
There are objects that I need on and objects that I need off. If they reside on the same layer, it will freeze everything on that layer, even in vp freeze. That's why it makes sense to do an isolate object.
sounds like your layer structure is insufficient for your needs.
Hi @asherjoh!
I don't know of a native solution that does what you want.
In your approach though I would prefer to convert all these elements to a block and copy it somewhere else instead. That way when you edit it in one place it updates in the other..
Another less appropriate workaround would be to bring these elements to the front, create a wipe out in a new layer and put it just behind them, and freeze that new layer in all viewports except the intended one.. You have to keep track though and be careful not to put or bring undesirable objects to the front later..
Regards 🙂
Yes it would be very convenient to do that for isolating drawings for construction details... Without copying items away...
You can do that in Rhino3D but surprisingly not in AutoCAD... 😞 A real kink considering the price difference between those two software.
It's unfortunate that the O.P. used the word "layer" in his query, since this problem has NOTHING to do with layers, frozen or otherwise.
He's asking "how can I show ONLY the isolated OBJECTS (not layers) in a viewport view?" I've got the same issue: I want to show a view of some objects in the 3D model resulting from ISOLATE, and have the view remain unaltered even after I end the isolation in the Model view.
Seems to be no way to do this, which is bizarre, since it would seem to address the main reason for having a 3D model in the first place.
Exactly the function I've been searching for:
3D modelling and after isolate, part by part (not depending on the layer) for detailing, you can do that in Rhino3D (you although have to invert selection and do "hide in viewport" instead of "isolate object" which could be more convenient).
But in such an expensive software like AutoCAD, impossible to do such a simple and logical functionality, essential for going from 3D modeling to 2D fabrication plan... Unthinkable...
