Is there a command that squeezes or compresses objects or blocks?

I am looking for an AutoCAD command that would be similar to "Stretch" or "Scale" but would compress or expand a group of objects or a block in a singular specific direction. I have added images of what I am trying to accomplish.

Setting different x and y scales on a block that isn't set to uniform scale will work fine. Use the properties palette for convenience.

What about a group of objects that are not a block?

Is there a way to change the uniform scale setting on blocks?

There are routines out there for the Searching that will scale various things in only one direction.  But I think all of them put those things into a Block, scale that in one direction, and then Explode the Block.

On the second question, if you mean as you Insert one, you can set it there:

If you mean after the fact, the Properties palette will let you change scale factors, but if the Block is not defined for uniform scaling, you will need to change each of them separately.  [If you're doing only 2D work, you can probably leave the Z scale factor unchanged.]
