Inventor Export to AutoCAD - Image file issue

Apologies if this should be in the Inventor forum but I wasn't sure as affects both AutoCAD and Inventor ...

We have an issue whereby we have some Inventor 2017 drawings with a title block we have created. In the title block is a bitmap for our company logo. On one contract we have to export the IDW file to AutoCAD (2017) DWG, which we can do fine, but for some reason (and it hasn't happened previously) we open the DWG file in AutoCAD and the logo is missing, and in its place is a blank block (see below) which says TempEmbed.BMP. We aren't sure what to look for, as it seems to be a recent thing, yet we haven't changed anything in AutoCAD or Inventor for 3-4 months, and a previous batch 2 months ago was fine. We are using Windows 10, and have had updates, but could this be an issue!? Any help appreciated.

Hi @PafecDOGS,

I believe the behavior with the embedded image is normal if you save as an Inventor DWG.  If you saveas as an AutoCAD DWG then the image will show up but I doubt it will round trip.

Linking the image is a better method to make sure it will go back and forth.

Hi @PafecDOGS,

I am checking back to see if my post helped you with your problem or question. Did linking the image work better or saving to the AutoCAD DWG format? Please mark my post as the solution if it resolved the issue or give me a bit more detail on this issue so we can continue to work towards getting this solved.

Hi there ... yeah we don't want a linked image because the DWG output files are going to a client, and its not practical. Besides, this issue was fine until recently.

However, digging a bit further I discovered the issue was Windows based - the BMP file extension program association had become reset/corrupted, and as we use BMP files in our Inventor drg, this was the issue. I think I've read about this before, but ages ago, about Inventor and/or AutoCAD require the image file extension you are using to be defaulted to Microsoft Paint. Maybe a recent Windows update caused the issue,  but the article below fixed the issue:
