Hello. Having trouble intersecting 2 3D Solids for the cover of a hose. Any suggestions as to solutions?

I have attached a file with the two solids

First thing I noticed was that your 3D solids were on the DEFPOINTS layer.  NEVER use the DEFPOINTS layer for anything, it's a cardinal rule of ACAD.

That's didn't help the Solid Intersection process though.

I separated the solids by moving 1 of them 25 units in the Y axis.  Then I created a layout to pull some data and analyze.

I think that your shell model has problems that affect the ability for the inner model to interface with?  The shell appears to be .013 thick but the areas at the root of the spiral are very strange.

I've attached the drawing as I analyzed and noted.

Hello David

Sometimes it's just too complicated to perform in one step.  I broke the items into section into 3 by slicing them at the point of chamfer at each end.  I then sliced the excess away from each end of the longer item.  Once sliced it was possible to intersect each pair of items individually.  when all the items were intersected I then used union on them to return to one single component.

By breaking this down into easy steps the processing was able to complete the final item.

There are a couple of sharp points at each end you may wish to slice off the model.

I hope this is useful - probably too late for this problem but the process of breaking it down into manageable sections can be useful in many circumstances.
